Born and raised in Minnesota, Dr. Plimpton attended the undergraduate and medical school at the University of Minnesota. In 1967, after his Internship year at University of West Virginia, he returned to Mayo for his residency and became board certified in 1972. Just after residency he served as Chief of Medicine at the 24th Evacuation House in Vietnam. By 1975 he earned a second board certification in Gastroenterology and maintains a "double-boarded" certification to this day. He has served Abbott Northwestern since 1974. His name frequents the list of "Top Doc" in Mpls/St. Paul Magazine.
