Specialties

Dr. David S James has the following 3 specialties

  • Critical Care Medicine

Also sometimes referred to as intensivists, critical care specialists are physicians with specialized training in the diagnosis and management of life-threatening conditions. Some of these conditions affect vital organs like the heart and lungs, those that make breathing difficult or impossible, and those that affect entire organ systems, like the renal system.
Critical care specialists are typically found in a hospital's intensive care unit where they monitor patients with life-threatening conditions and make determinations as to the best course of treatment.

  • Internal Medicine

An internist is a physician who focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of conditions that affect the adult population—both acute and chronic.
These doctors are often who adults see as their primary physicians because they treat a broad range of illnesses that do not require surgical or specialist interventions. They also work to help a patient maintain optimal health in order to prevent the onset of disease.
In addition to treating the common cold and flu, internists also treat chronic diseases like diabetes and heart disease.

  • Pulmonary Disease

A pulmonologist is a physician who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of conditions related to the lungs and respiratory tract.
These specialists are similar to critical care specialists in that their patients often require mechanical ventilation to assist their breathing.
Pulmonologists diagnose and treat patients with conditions such as asthma, cystic fibrosis, asbestosis, pulmonary fibrosis, lung cancer, COPD, and emphysema. Exposure and inhalation of certain toxic substances may also warrant the services of a pulmonologist.
Some of the tools and tests pulmonologists use to diagnose a patient are a stethoscope in order to listen for abnormal breathing sounds, chest X-rays, CT scans, blood tests, bronchoscopy, and polysomnography.

The St Mary's lung and sleep center is not handicap accessible!

I really liked Doctor James however his office is not accessible to someone who is handicapped. You would think they would make sure patients are able to get in and out of their building as well as maneuver a wheelchair through their office with ease. They are an office who sees patients who are very I'll and have difficulty breathing. When you arrive at their office and you need to get through the door, there is a note which tells you to push the button for help with the door heaven forbid if your wheelchair doesn't allow you to get close enough to the door to push it! Once you have pushed the bottom you are required to sit outside until someone decides they're going to let you in! Once you are inside its almost impossible to maneuver a wheelchair through the office. To comply with ADA standards the doorways should be wider than a regular door frame, but they're not. It's very frustrating and feels like you are being discriminated against. It's heartbreaking that I am being forced to find a new doctor just because they refuse to comply with ADA regulations. I have filed a complaint with the ADA.

Five Stars

Took a month to get in but Dr James took plenty of time with me and listened to my concerns and answered my questions. He came up with a plan of action to get to a diagnosis and, although we're not there yet, I'm confident he'll find out what's wrong with me.
