Dr. David W Karp, MD

Last fall, I had Cataract surgery performed on one eye by Dr David Karp of Doctors Eye Institute in Louisville, Ky. What a mistake! I paid an extra $2,000 for Laser surgery and Toric lens implant to correct Astigmatism. I now have worse vision than before surgery when not using corrective eyeglasses. Dr Karp recommended Laser surgery because I had a “Difficult” Cataract supposedly because of its denseness. I later found out that he recommends Laser surgery exclusively. He now recommends surgery on the other eye. I recently went to another well known Opthomologist for an exam and second opinion. He indicated that either the wrong lens prescription was chosen or the Toric lens was not correctly positioned in the eye. He also stated that I do not need surgery on the other eye at this time because I don’t meet The Medicare guidelines required for Cataract surgery. According to this website, Dr Karp has 52 years experience in his field. In my opinion, it is time for Dr… Karp to step aside and let the later generation of Doctors who are more capable of performing complex surgeries that require the use of a “steady”hand. Doctors need to be more aware of their declining physical and mental capabilities as they grow older.

I have glaucoma and have been a patient of Dr. Karp for about 40 years. He removed cataracts from both my eyes within the past 10 years. I find Dr. Karp extremely friendly and he'll give you as much time as you need to explain things and reassure you as a patient. His staff is extremely professional, and I've never had to wait more than 10 minutes beyond my scheduled appointment time. This office does not overbook and leave you sitting for hours.

Dr. Karp performed my cataract surgery and is not only an excellent surgeon but he is also a caring and compassionate doctor. I really appreciate the time Dr. Karp took to explain the surgery and what I could expect from it. His staff is very kind, considerate and knowledgeable. Best of all, I have never been able to see as well as I do now without glasses.

Dr. Karp is excellent. His vast experience, thorough knowledge and reassuring manner have won my trust over many years as his patient. I recommend him to everyone. Dr. Karp also has an outstanding reputation as an eye surgeon and has as much or more LASIK expertise than any local ophthalmologist.
