Dr. Dawn Marie Ayers, MD

I have been with Dr. Ayers probably since she started out or shortly there after. She "saved" my life. The first Endo I saw at a huge practice told me he would not treat me until my thyroid was dead.( I have Hashimoto's) I was miserable. She came recommended by a tech who was doing my biopsy. When I had my first appointment she did a head to toe physical with an echocardiogram included. She started me on Synthroid and had me checked every six weeks for the first year. We now meet once a year and she has helped me with non-related issues. I am not going to lie, yes sometimes you wait to be seen but she spends time with you and listens to every word you say.

Dr. Ayers is an excellent physician who specializes in Endocrinology. She has helped me tremendously in the years I have went to her. Not only do I receive excellent care, I feel Dr. Ayers is easy to talk to and very personable. She listens, assesses and formulates a plan and while doing this, treats you like she is your family.

I was seeing another doctor who was treating me for thyroid issues. I had a tumor when I was six-years old, and I researched and found Dr. Ayers. She has always listened and treated me with respect. I drive over an hour to meet with her because she is very competent. More than that she has empathy and listening skills which are sometimes as important or more important that medical skills. I have never had to wait longer that 15 minutes for an appointment.

I went to Dr. Ayers initially because I moved to Indiana and I needed an endocrinologist with a good reputation. I have a complex thyroid issue where I was under a wonderful doctor's care in AZ. So I called to see her. It tooks four months before we could get in to see her. Whenever I go, I have to wait so long before I get in to an examination room. Once in there I have to wait on average 45 minutes before I can see her. When she comes in, she spends 5 minutes with me and we are done. i don't get the chance to discuss with her options that are out there to help me. I asked her to refer me to a nutritionist, she didn't. I asked her to look at other ways to get me back to health and losing weight again, and all she could come up with is either a weight-loss (shakes) program that she is a partner in, or bariatric surgery. I have 70 pounds to lose, there are other ways to go other than the extreme. Looking for another endocrinologist. I can't even have a normal conversation… with her where I can express how I am feeling and get some help.
