Dr. Dean Matsuda has the following 2 specialties
- Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine
An osteopath is a physician who is trained in the philosophy of osteopathic medicine. These doctors have a D.O. degree which stands for Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, as opposed to M.D. for Medical Doctor.
Osteopathic medicine differs from conventional medicine, which is sometimes referred to as allopathic medicine, in that they incorporate a type of manual therapy called Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM) into their treatment in which they manipulate the spine in order to relieve pain when other methods have not been successful. This is reflective of the philosophical difference between the two types of physicians; osteopaths are trained to treat the body as a whole in the belief that the body is structured with the ability to heal itself while medical doctors treat specific illnesses or symptoms.
Overall, osteopaths and medical doctors in the US are both equally qualified to treat patients and they work in the same settings and provide the same treatments.
- Orthopedic Surgery
An orthopaedic surgeon is a physician who specializes in diagnosis and surgical treatment of injuries and disorders involving the musculoskeletal system, such as hip replacements and arthroscopic knee surgery.
In addition to treating trauma to the musculoskeletal system, these doctors also deal with sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors and congenital disorders.
- Hip Osteoarthritis
- Knee Osteoarthritis
- Osteoarthritis (Hand and Wrist)

My experience with Dr. Matsuda was incredible. He performed a double hip arthroscopy and also removed a large cyst and did a bone graft in my hip. I really felt comfortable as he took the time to answer my questions, even by email, and the surgery went smoothly and my recovery was even better. My results are amazing, and for the FIRST time in my life, I have no pain in my hips. I am now 3 months out from surgery, and Dr. Matsuda has been there for ALL my questions, about physical therapy, everything! He's so knowledgable and helpful... and a world- leading expert in what he does. I would never go anywhere else. I travelled 500 miles just to do my surgery with him. I have spectacular results. I thank you, Dr. Matsuda! You are truly THE BEST.
My daughter (14 years old) had hip arthroscopy by Dr. Matsuda nearly 6 weeks ago. Dr. Matsuda diagnosed her with CAM impingement and some Pincer impingement as well. She had damages to her joint cartilage and labrum. Dr. Matsuda fixed these problems by using two holes arthroscopy. My daughter is recovering well. She can walk short distance without crutches now. I also wrote a much more detailed review in yelp about our experience for Dr. Matsuda at DISC sport center, if you need to know more details.
Dr. Matsuda gave me exceptional care. He made the process of a hip surgery as smooth as I could have hoped. He was attentive, willing to explain details, and very easy to contact with questions after surgery. He made me feel well taken care of, and took as much time as I needed. I definitely recommend him!
I really want to say what a great experience I had at DISC in Marina del Rey, California. @DISCmd Dr. Dean Matsuda and his entire team both before and after my surgery were impressive, professional yet personable. Dr. Dean Matsuda is a very skilled hip arthroscopist & surgeon and compassionate, attentive and thorough physician. He went out of his way to accomodate my surgery, even changing his flight & travel plans to attend a national orthopaedic meeting. Dr. Dean Matsuda is a nationally recognized expert, speaker and instructor in the field of hip disorders and arthroscopy. I personally travelled from Northern California for his expertise in labral reconstruction. I am an orthopaedic surgeon and would highly recommend him! Hats off to him!
