Dr. Deborah S Heaney has the following 2 specialties
- Occupational Medicine
You might work with an occupational therapist when you’re injured or if you have a disability. They rehabilitate and assist patients with every day activities, such as eating, getting dressed, working and attending social events. This includes self-care, leisure and work-related activities that lead to increased independence and development. Their goal is to empower people to still live the life they want despite any physical, developmental, social and/or emotional issues they might face.
- Preventive Medicine
A preventive medicine/wellness specialist is a physician who, through additional training, has become an expert in methods for maintaining good health and preventing disease. These specialists are the doctors people see when they are generally well or without a specific ailment and want to either learn how to maintain their current health or acquire better health.
These doctors will advise patients on specific diets, exercise regimens, and lifestyle habits that are suited to their particular needs. Preventive medicine/wellness specialists take into account a patient's nutrition deficiencies, physical and cardiovascular capabilities, and habits in order to advise specific vitamins and supplements to take, how much physical activity to undertake, and which habits should be broken and replaced with more positive behavior.

I was sent to Dr. Heaney for what was supposed to be an Independent Medical Exam . I say supposed because the doctors are contracted by an agency hired by the "employer". They are "hired guns". In my case the employer is Macomb County. I live in Macomb County. Heaney's office is in Chelsea, MI - Washtenaw County - three hours away - one way. Because I suffer and have become disabled from an autoimmune disease, the agency felt that Heaney was the best doctor for my IME. She is an Occupational Medicine Doctor. I never heard of this type of doctor She has no experience or board certification in any of the many medical fields that encompass my disease. I receive treatment from rheumatologists, neurologists, pain management doctors, gastroenterologists, urologists, optometrists, periodontal specialists, regular dentists, chiropractors . . . As the review above states - she is not a doctor for complex medical issues. She prepared a report informing my employer that I am not disabled. Ironically, the doctors that examined me for Social Security say that I am and the long term disability company also agrees. From my research, I learned that Heaney also works for the V.A as "their doctor" regarding claims filed by our military regarding the toxic water at Camp Lejuene. She denies that the toxic water has disabled these vets. Very sad and not right. Unfortunately, my brother was one of the military individuals. He became very sick and in 2012 committed suicide. He was only 52.
Terrible experience. Office staff was rude. Dr. Heaney was 45 minutes late. Her diagnosis , or lack thereof, was completely off base. Dr. Heaney is not someone to go to when you have a complex health history. She has no expertise and provided me withnothing of value.. Seeing Dr. Heaney was a complete waste of time.
