Dr. Donald E Tsai, MD

I have been a patient of Dr. Tsai's for over 2 years. He is one of the kindest and most compassionate doctors I have ever met. He is extremely knowledgeable about my relatively rare cancer, CNS lymphoma, speaks very directly with me in language that is understandable yet never condescending. I have full faith and trust in him. I can share my concerns with him and he is frank in providing answers and options. Dr. Tsai is obviously very smart. Whenever I was in the hospital and told nurses he was my doctor, the nurses were very complimentary about him -- about how much they learned from him and how kind he was -- he has a genuine respect for people. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Tsai!

Having been a physician myself, I understand the importance of establishing a trusting relationship with patients. This was our first meeting with Dr. Tsai, following my wife's diagnosis of lymphoma while hospitalized at HUP. Dr. Tsai has a very compassionate demeanor, and yet extremely knowledgeable in the area of lymphomas. He does not make the patient feel inferior, takes as much time as is needed to answer questions and reflects a positive, hopeful future for the patient and its family. He won our hearts and trust in the first visit.

I was a leukemia patient at HUP (Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania). He was one of the many attending oncologists who treated me. Of all the attendings he is one who stood out. Besides being incredibly knowledgeable and effective, as all my oncologists were at HUP, he was very friendly, upbeat, and approachable. Not many of my HUP oncologists were this personable.This guy knows leukemia and its treatment. HUP is a GREAT place to be if you want to beat leukemia. Dr. Tsai has seen it all and can quickly diagnose and treat any situation that arises. You are in good hands with Dr. Tsai.Tsai not only listened to me about my symptoms, but one time when he was stumped he listened to me about my idea of what the cause was and he followed through with a diagnostic x-ray which confirmed my suspicion. The problem was solved that day. Several months later Dr. Tsai told me another patient had the same symptoms and he ran the same x-ray and found the same problem... Dr. Tsai… thanked me! He didn't have to share that with me, but that's the kind of person he is.
