A nephrologist is a physician who is specially trained to diagnose and treat conditions affecting the kidneys or renal system.
A nephrologist will determine through urine analysis, blood test, X-ray, sonogram, or kidney biopsy how well the kidneys are functioning and will then prescribe a special diet and exercise program, medication or dialysis - a process by which a machine filters the blood when the kidney is no longer capable of doing so.
A pediatrician is a doctor who specializes in the regular care of children, as well as the diagnosis and treatment of illness in children. Young patients are often more complicated to treat because they are still growing and developing.
While pediatricians may sub-specialize in specific therapy areas like oncology, surgery, ophthalmology, and anesthesiology, in general, pediatricians provide services like vaccinations, health exams, and treatment of common ailments and injuries. In addition, pediatricians are trained to handle the complex emotional and behavioral issues faced by children, especially during puberty.
Pediatricians normally see their patients from birth until the age of 18, although some may agree to treat patients into their early 20s, if requested.

We are very lucky Dr. Kohaut is our sons doctor. He has gone above and beyond to treat our son even to the point of personally contacting our insurance company to have the experimental treatment covered which only would have cost us $10,000. This treatment has been the only thing that has gotten our son into remission and we are forever thankful to Dr. Kohaut for caring most about his patients.
Dr. Kohaut did a great job repairing a problem with my daughter's ureter when she was just 4 months old. He was very thorough, and did lots of follow-up before she was discharged from his care. His bedside manner is great. He was friendly and kind to my child. I cannot tell one how many times in my life I have changed doctors simply because a doctor was mean to one of my children. We consider ourselves very fortunate to have found this doctor.
My son's pediatrician sent us to see Dr. Kohaut because he was born with damaged kidneys and he had abnormal test results but his urine test showed he was not dehydrated. Dr. Kohaut comes in, says my son is fine and was probably dehydrated, tried to argue with me about what medicine he is on, then wanted us to get blood work done that had already been done 3 days before the appointment. I honestly don't know if he was looking at the correct file and if he did look at my son's file it was for all of 30 seconds. When I asked about an ultrasound that had just been done he said "What about it?". I asked how it looked and he said "not normal but you knew that" then tried to leave the room until I asked a few more follow up questions. He seems to be the only pediatric nephrologist within 100 miles but my pediatrician has assured me we will see him as sparingly as possible.
Dr. Kohaut miss diagnosed my 11 yr old daughter. She was passing Kidney stones, BP was 155/105,with all classic symptoms. Told her to stop crying there is nothing wrong with her ! Later found she has Hypercalcuira, four kidneys and four ureters! She makes stones like a factory! We found a real Dr to help her ! Next problem was he was an ER DR one afternoon, and my 14 year old son, who had just had a Brain Decompression 21 days prior, was having explosive heads, Peds Dr said to take him in NOW!! Dr. Kohaut did a reflex exaime on him, looked normal at first but a bit rough. he pulled my 6'2" 200 LB son off the end off the stretcher, the had him stand and laced his hands up the back of his head were he had just had the surgery and the 22 staples has been out only a week! He still had 4 more rows of stiches underneath, part of his skull removed, and his first Vertebre. After he manipulated my sons head for him with no regards of the pain he was showing, he told me he had a stomache bug! He in fact was getting rebound headaches from the pain meds. This man needs to retire ! I have nothing good to say. He has no bedside manner at all, and is just plain crule!!!!
