Dr. Evan Scott Bates, MD

Stay far away from this doctor, especially if you are bringing a child to him. He is rude, impatient, and very unprofessional. He raised his voice at my daughter when she was crying to “calm down!” He didn’t explain what he would be doing during the exam and it terrified her. Worst of all, I never saw him clean his hands and he never wore surgical gloves, even while cauterizing a blood vessel in my daughter’s nose. It was a terrible experience from start to finish. I should have walked out after he yelled at my daughter.

I thought our instance was a one off. But after reading tons of negative reviews indicating that while this doctor has ton of experience, has a pattern of making mistakes and instead of owning the issue...rather just buries his head in the sand. And like others have experienced immediately starts blaming the patient, becomes overly defensive and rude, and starts pushing you off on other doctors to try and fix/hide his mistakes. So again parents....be very careful. It’s just not worth your child’s long term hearing loss.

Had sinus surgery. He was supposed to also fix my deviated septum. After the surgery when I asked him about it he looked shocked and the said “oh I was just able to push it over and it stayed”. I took that to mean he forgot to do it. It’s been 9 years and I still have a deviated septum. I complained to Him that something wasn’t right and he insisted it was my imagination. Fast forward three weeks and my left eye suddenly swells almost completely closed. I call and am told by his nurse “Dr. Bates says there is no way it is related to your surgery, you need to see an eye doctor.” This is the week of my wedding...awesome. I tell them I am going to the Plano office and will be sitting in the waiting area until he sees me. I show up and they are extremely rude to me and move me to a room in the back where I wait for over an hour for him to see me. When he walks into the room (obviously annoyed) he takes one look at me and I see a look of clear shock on his face. Turns out I have… peri-orbital cellulitis which is an extremely dangerous infection that, according to Dr. Bates, I would’ve “likely been dead by the weekend if I didn’t get immediate treatment.” This is on a Wednesday, my wedding is the following Saturday. He tells me I must immediately check into the hospital for emergency treatment and to cancel the wedding. Obviously, this won’t work. I was ultimately able to get to a home infusion care treatment facility where they showed me how to administer massive doses of steroids and antibiotics thru a port in my arm for the next 4 days. I was able to make it to the wedding but felt miserable and looked like a cabbage patch kid from all of the facial swelling. Do not use this doctor. His ego almost cost me my life (literally) and ruined my wedding. Do yourself a favor and see someone else.

We just left the office of Dr Bates without being seen. My husbands PCP made the appointment for us and told us to be there early for paperwork. Not only were we early with the paperwork all filled out only to be told that since we didn't confirm the appointment time there was no appointment in his name. They never told our nurse from the PCP to call to confirm. They were argumentative and not willing to work with us to try to be worked in even after we mentioned we came from Frisco to be seen. This review is not against Dr Bates himself, but against the front office staff that was not willing to even ask a office manager or the doctor if there was anyway to be seen today.

Visited with Dr Bates for muffled & fullness in my ear. He has been my ENT for 10 years perform sinus surgery for me twice & I had good results, therefore this was not my first visit but WILL be my last. He was very rude, persisting that I have not had congestion, there was no fluid in my ear. When I was telling him I had sinus congestion & had been rinsing my sinuses which he told me I should not be using, contradicting what he had told me to do in years previously. Several years ago when I referred a friend, she had told me he was very rude to her. Not sure what causes him to react with rudeness at times but this one time was enough me & now I know what my friend meant. No Longer my Dr

I thought I was experiencing loss of hearing. Diagnosis - some loss but nothing to worry about.

Nurse needs to work on being more courteous and understanding of patient's needs. Doctor's follow-up did not occur as promised.

He is absolutely wonderful. Great experience and will be forever grateful for this doctor. He's honest and doesn't try to bill insurance for unnecessary expenses. His staff was professional and glad we made the decision to leave our other ENT for he and his staff! Thank you Dr. Bates!

Scheduling can sometimes be painful but Dr Bates is great. Cleared up a biofilm-forming bacterial sinus infection that I had been battling for several months. Great bedside manner. Definitely recommend!

Dr.Dates doesnt even bother to look at your previous medical records if they are from a different hospital or country. He just ignores them. Like most mentioned , you fell he has come with a predetrmined mindset, you wont be comfortable with his diagnosis. He tends to ignore they symptoms you mention to him. and i felt he is pushy for surgery and to use their facilities(scan ,Xray & stuff). I am definetly going for a second opinion and a better doctor.
