Dr. Fanchette Marguerat Degaard, PhD

I am a Clinical Psychologist, licensed in New York State. My academic journey started in Switzerland with a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Geneva. Wanting to combine my passion for dance and the art of therapy, I came to the US and obtained a Master’s degree in Dance/Movement Therapy from Hunter College, NYC. I worked as a Dance Therapist for more than a decade, developing, implementing and supervising creative art therapy programs. In 2005 I received a PhD in Clinical Psychology from Adelphi University. Upon graduating I worked in hospital Behavioral Health Services and was involved in clinical work as well as in teaching and training. Throughout the years, I have pursued multiple interests and explored new paths while furthering my education and training in different areas of psychology and psychoanalysis. I have been in private practice since 2013. My approach is integrative and flexible, greatly influenced and informed by my artistic background. My …many years of work in the mental health field have taught me profound humility in the face of the deepest layers of humanity. I view psychotherapy as an in-depth collaborative and creative process which expands and frees self-expressions, and allows untold stories to be told, contradictions to be bridged, and emotions to be felt or re-touched towards a richer and healthier self-understanding and quality of life.My method encourages my patients to mobilize the Cs of therapy, i.e. connection and commitment to the therapeutic journey, curiosity and creativity to explore, open, and expand old and new spaces.I offer psychotherapeutic services in English and French.
