He taught hematology and oncology at the Howard University College of Medicine and the George Washington University/Washington Hospital Center before moving to Bismarck.

He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians, a member of the American Society of Hematology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, and the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine. He has published several papers and given several lectures.
