Dr. Francis P Arena has the following 3 specialties
- Internal Medicine
An internist is a physician who focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of conditions that affect the adult population—both acute and chronic.
These doctors are often who adults see as their primary physicians because they treat a broad range of illnesses that do not require surgical or specialist interventions. They also work to help a patient maintain optimal health in order to prevent the onset of disease.
In addition to treating the common cold and flu, internists also treat chronic diseases like diabetes and heart disease.
- Hematology and Oncology
An Oncologist is a physician who focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of different cancers. This physician has extensive knowledge of the different signs and symptoms of cancer, as well as the various methods of treatment.
Oncologists diagnose cancer through methods such as biopsy, endoscopy, X-ray, blood tests, ultrasound, and different forms of nuclear medicine. They treat cancer through surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, hormone therapy, or antibody treatments.
If it is determined that a cancer cannot successfully be treated, oncologists then focus on providing palliative care, the use of pain medication to make a dying person more comfortable.
- Medical Oncology
Think of an oncologist as your main physician for cancer care. After being diagnosed, you’ll meet regularly with an oncologist to explore and manage your treatment options, as well as monitor your condition throughout the process. Medical oncologists are extremely knowledgeable in various types of cancer treatment and can recommend the right method for the type and stage of cancer you’re facing.
They may also refer you to additional specialists throughout your care, but they will always be your home base for questions and support. It’s also worth mentioning that medical oncologists deal mostly with solid tumors while hematologists specialize in cancers that involve blood disorders, such as leukemia.

Dr. Arena was recommended to me by Dr. Derisi. I later learned they are friends, and Dr. Derisi wanted someone to tell me I should get a double masectomy. I had received chemotherapy from another doctor, which was not entirely successful. Dr. Arena screamed at me during the consultation when I said I was reluctant to have a masectomy. "Did you really think chemotherapy was going to cure you? You need to get into surgery immediately." I did have surgery, which was also not entirely successful, but I would rather dive into vomit than see Dr. Arena again. It is clear to me he hates women and is tired of his job. Cancer patients need doctors to be positive and competent, not angry and critical.
My father was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Dr. Arena was my father's primary doctor but we never saw him in the hospital-only his colleagues. Dr. Arena's bedside manner is terrible. He is a very good salesman with lack of compassion. He sold my dad on the treatment and they his staff took over with his direction? When my father passed away we never heard from Dr. Arena. We understand he join forces with Langone. I understand from a patient. I would be treatment first and then finances now it is finances then treatment. All about the money! I will plan on sending the the Doctor's Pray. He needs it!
