Told her how bad her back was and she had 2 choices being paralyzed or dead. What kind of Dr. tell a patient that over the phone??? Then the call gets dropped , she calls him back immediately and he refuses to speak with her. Sorry and a bitter person with no bedside manners!!!!! Will NEVER recommend him again!!!

This Doctor is one of the most empathetic and conservative Doctors I have ever had. He makes you feel safe and taken care of. And has helped me immensely with my spine issues. I would recommend him every time. His staff is also very knowledgeable and caring. 5 stars all the way.

Doctor Frank Kuwamura performed a Microdisectomy on my back Tuesday morning and I could feel the relief from the bone spur that was pressing on my sciatica nerve immediately. I highly praise South Texas Spine and Surgical Hospital and their staff . The nurses that are preparing you for surgery are all very conscious about washing their hands each time they enter your cubicle before they touch or do anything to you. Dr K is a great doctor and skilled surgeon.He told me on a previous visit I needed a minimal laminectomy.I went back a month later after the symptoms worsened to see if it could still be done.He said yes&asked if I wanted to schedule then.I said I would call the next day to schedule it.Did that,was given Maria's voicemail, left a message.Again 2 days later.Went in person 3th day.On phone couldn't talk.8 messages left in all,no call back.Total waste of time.Bye-bye Dr.K.Please get better staffing

Dr. Kuwamara is the best spine/back surgeon ever. His work is amazing. He is current on available technology and surgery methods. I had mobi-c disks put in my neck vs. fusion and I have full range of motion and no pain. I also had a laminectomy on my lower spine and I am pain free. He also operated on my 81 yr old Mom’s back who had been in pain for 30 years And she is doing fantastic.

had lower back surgery 5 months ago. long story short I developed 2 autoimmune disorders (they dont tell you is even possible before the surgery) once the surgery was over, they could care less about you as a person or patient. I was dismissed by the entire office basically from the moment I was discharged from the hospital. found out that messages weren't even being passed along to the doctor. it has been a very long 5 months. nothing has gone according to "plan". now 5 months later, still under his care. not even 50%healed, they claim I owe a balance of $94. $70 of which is crap. it was for a copay they claim wasnt paid. but it was. in cash. suddenly they lost receipt of it. I offered to pay the $24 right away that I know is owed and she denied payment. then informed me that I will not be allowed to see the doctor anymore until its paid in full. they are canceling all of my future appts and no more will be made until paid. so who am I supposed to see for a surgery that he completed.… it it not his responsibility? it's been a horrible experience from the moment I was discharged. no communication from the doctor at all. and the staff are rude and unprofessional. find someone who actually cares about you, not only as a patient, but a person

I was referred to Dr. Kuwamura about 2 months ago. Taren called me right away and was asking to schedule me. I was paying out of pocket so at the time, Taren said I could get my CT scan before I saw the Dr. rather than pay for two trips since I would probably need a CT anyway. Had trouble getting CT because needed referrals from in network Dr so I changed my insurance to one that includes Kuwamura as well as the CT place. Got my CT finally and called Kuwamura to schedule. Now a new girl, Melissa, tells me they can’t schedule me without having notes from prior surgery. Doesn’t even need the CT scan, just prior surgery notes. Ok. So I get those and she says it will be a couple days. A week goes by and she tells me she’s not sure why they haven’t reviewed it. Eventually, 2 weeks later, we get a hold of Taren. We have been trying to get back in touch with her many times up to this point since she was the one who started the process with me. No one ever calls back and Melissa could never… do anything. Was a complete struggle ever getting a hold of someone and when you do it wasn’t helpful. So anyway, we get a hold of Taren and then the next day, get a call back saying the Dr finally reviewed the prior surgery notes and won’t see me. He doesn’t say why and they don’t elaborate at all. So 2 months go by, I do every thing they ask and then this. The least he could do is tell me a brief reason why, to help guide me to who I should be trying to see. I mean, should I see a different kind of Dr or is it just him personally that can’t help? Then Taren denies that she ever told me to get a CT scan. Even though she told me and my primary Dr. but she denies that. So this Dr and their staff obviously have no human compassion. For all I know, I might spend another few weeks trying to see another Dr just to be denied. Dr. Kuwamura should tell me why he can’t see me or can’t help me. I am in chronic neck pain and it has only been getting worse. It is crazy that the office and this Dr would treat me this way. He doesn’t seem like someone who actually cares about a person. Only if he can operate on them. So now I will keep suffering and try to find another Dr and have no idea why this one denies me. I hope Dr Kuwamura and the office staff read this and at least feel bad. To you it’s a job and to me it is a very serious life situation that you just wasted two months allowing my neck pain to get worse and leaving me with no information to help me know what kind of Dr might be able to help me. The only thing Taren told me was to go back to my primary and have them find me another Dr. Really? My primary referred me to you and you didn’t tell us why you can’t help. So my primary doesn’t have any new info either. They just don’t get it. No compassion and can’t see this situation from a patients perspective.

I just Had an appointment with dr. Kumawara! He was amazing. So knowledgeable and broke down my case for me in the best way possible! I’ve seen so many surgeons and he exceeded my expectations. He was very helpful with the type of procedure he does and the benefits from it. His staff was very friendly and helpful! They welcomed me and answered all my questions. I can’t wait to move forward with this office! Thank you!

I am impressed with Dr. Kuwamura's professionalism, bed side manors as well as his expertise knowledge in the field. I recently had back surgery with good results of my pain and radiating leg symptoms. Initially, I had difficulty with staff not returning my call. Once insurance was approved for surgery, the process of preparation was very organized.
