I had inguinal hernia surgery by Dr. Jacobsen in early May. I have waited six months to comment to assess the success. I did a lot of research on surgeons and the possible surgical repairs. I determined that I wanted a laparoscopic repair because there was less trauma to the body therefore less pain and a faster recovery. Unfortunately that approach had a higher rate of complications. I learned that the learning curve for that type of surgery was approximately 200 cases; after that the complication rates were equal for either laparoscopic or open repair. By research and reputation I selected Dr. Jacobsen who was way beyond the 200 cases learning curve. The office the office visit was good, he did not act rushed and answered all my questions. I had the surgery as an outpatient at the surgery center. The nurses and anesthesiologists were all excellent. The surgery took less than an hour. Dr. Jacobsen spoke to me after and told me that it was a success. He also told me the most important thing was to apply ice, not at the incisions up by the navel, but down near the groin were the repair was done. I never took a pain pill and was up and about on the next day with minimal discomfort. As I stated I did a lot of research on the different surgical methods including watching many surgeries online. Dr. Jacobsen provided a picture of the mesh placed to fix my direct and indirect hernia, it was attached much better than any of the videos that I had seen online (which the other surgeons thought was worthy of putting online). It is now about six months later all hernia pain is gone and there is no pain from the mesh or repair. I would strongly recommend Dr. Jacobsen.
I would choose Dr. Jacobsen again without hesitation. He performed a hernia repair on my left side, and I had no pain or even discomfort from it, at all. It was out-patient surgery. I went home, and other than being a little groggy from the anesthesia, I was up, moving around, working, no problem, no discomfort. And that's the way it stayed. It's been 3+ weeks, and it's healing fine, feeling good, and the small incisions seem to be fading already. I had a hernia repair 7 years ago on the right side, and had about 3 days of discomfort afterwards. That one also went extremely well, and I'm not complaining at all about the 3 days, it was very minor discomfort. But the fact that Dr. Jacobsen seemed to improve even on that is amazing to me. For this type of surgery, I can highly recommend him.
Went in for minor Inguinal Hernia repair. After initial Dr, visit surgery was scheduled two weeks later. I had Laparoscopic Surgery. Meaning it was done with two small incisions one for camera one for tools. I consented to be cut open but the laparocopic was successful. A small piece of mesh secured the Hernia. Everything went well. I was left with two 1/4 inch scars on each side of my stomach parallel to the belly button. The scars were closed by glue. There was some throbbing for 1.5 day and then I felt fine.
Don't be put off by 37-year-old Dr. Jacobsen's baby face guessing that he's too young to do the job right, because if you have an abdominal or groin hernia, he is THE San Diego expert.I have always been a nervous, apprehensive patient with millions of questions, so I was relieved from the moment he walked into the exam room; By his professional and calming demeanor and detailed explanation of my choices, I knew instantly that he was the right one to perform my surgery. If you have a bulging, painful hernia that has been plaguing you, don't wait any longer - call Dr. Jacobsen and learn your options. We're fortunate to have him right here in our hometown.
