Dr. Gary Wayne Mcewen, MD

I came in (saw McEwen~only bc my previous Derm I saw for a decade was too far after I moved) to get a steroid for a rash that I get intermittently for years & instead of focusing on my chief complaint be focused on the comedic spots & told me not to worry, it’s NOT LEPRACY and laughed…who jokes about rashes & cancerous spots with a NEW PATIENT? Not a professional, that’s who! They also called me a cosmetic ointment & would assist or even respond to my pharmacies numerous request then ignored my call to the nurse about it. I will be contacting my insurance company and asking for them to reverse this Drs claim since he’s only into taking peoples money& not actually treating/serving/helping them!

At my 3 week follow up to remove stitches from my foot, the nurse took a photo of my foot and showed Dr Mcewen. Dr Mcewen did not see me on this visit other than the photo the nurse showed him. The nurse returned saying they thought my foot was infected and would prescribe an antibiotic. The nurse was wearing gloves while taking the photo with the camera, leaving the room, returning, then opened the surgical equipment of which she dropped on the floor and picked up with her gloves. She did set those aside and opened another set but continued to use the same pair of gloves. She began to remove the stitches from my foot ( non de-solving type) then proceeded to look at my face. She noticed a stitch on my face and removed it. She touched the incision and said there was another stitch under the skin with a knot that she would leave alone. The stitches on my face were to be a self de-solving type. My face was healing well with little scarring at this point of which I personally have photos.… Taking selfies being a common thing and my mother being a nurse I have taken photos from day one surgery and so forth to send to my mother to look at. I left the office, picked up my script and began to take medication as directed. 3 days later I awoke on Saturday with my face swollen and red from the eye to the cheek bone. My face had clearly become infected. I contacted my Primary Care Physician, sent her a photo and she said unfortunately, I needed to go to the ER. I also contacted Dr Mcewan on the after hour line. He requested photos and agreed that I should seek medical attention at the ER. I went right away, they performed a CT scan, discontinued current antibiotics and placed me on two other antibiotics that would cover a broader spectrum of infection. The following week I had an appointment already on the books with my primary for a annual physical. While in her office she took swabs of both my foot and face which both came back with Staph infection. I had some concerns about the nurse dropping the utensils, but I did not think of the concern of cross contaminating infection from one wound to another which was brought to my attention by the ER nurse. I received a call from Dr Mcewns office on Tuesday of that week asking to see me in his office. During the visit he mentioned he had seen the noted from the ER visit and was quite defensive in regards to his nurse's wound care protocol. I explained in detail what had happened and that I felt that she had cross contaminated the infection to my face. Dr Mcewen said, and i quote " Frankly, I don't believe you" . I was aghast, in disbelief that he would respond that way. I have no reason to lie... I am beyond frustrated and now have a red inflamed scar on my face that looked nearly healed before I saw the nurse at that three week follow up. The two follow up visits that Ive been to, the original nurse was not treating me with the Dr, rather another nurse has been seeing me. And I do hate to bring her into this, but after Dr Mcewen left the room just after the comment that he didn't believe me, the nurse said in a low voice, " I believe you". That doesn't make anything better but it does imply, to me, that possibly the nurse in question may have some loose cleanliness habits. On my third visit to see Dr Mcewen, he removed at my request, another " self dissolving stitch". I asked him why these stitches on face weren't dissolving and he replied, again quote" I guess you'd have to ask the stitch" I'm worried that he may have used the wrong sutures as I have another stitch sticking out now and a red inflamed areas that look like a stitch is under the skin. I have put in a request to see my primary physician this week in regards to the stitches. I want a second opinion on the type of stitch used. To date I am 8 weeks post op. The stitches should have dissolved in three to 4 weeks. Also on a side note, there are no hand washing sinks in the two rooms Ive been in at this facility. They use hand sanitizer before applying gloves. I will not return to his office for any other future care. I don't trust them and i especially don't appreciate being called a liar. I can tell you that this issue has not been resolved and I will continue to pursue it as I now have a nice ER bill and a scar that would have been much less visible had the infection not have occurred.

I have seen Dr. Mcewen for years and he is a wonderful Pysician but his nurse is rude and should be replaced!

I had a spot on my nose that needed a biopsy by Taryne Hensley. It was very quick and virtually painless. I then had to return to the office for Mohs. I was treated with such gentleness and compassion through each step of this entire process. Dr McEwen was fabulous and each person that I dealt with from scheduling my apt, reception, every nurse that was mine or even if she wasn't greeted me as an individual. I truly felt cared for and cared about. Fantastic group of professionals!!

He is a great doctor and the staff is wonderful but I don't have time to wait over an hour in the waiting room

I went in to get a face treatment. The chemical peel went wrong and was a nightmare leaving deep permanent scars all over my face. They did not care and just said they were so sorry and this had never happened before! I have seen 3 drs since and will need to do laser to remove the scars!! No refund of money. I believe the acids were mixed wrong. No compassion on there sides. I am seeking legal action. This is a true warning!!

My husband and son were loyal patrons for over 15 years. They loved the doctor and felt they had a trusted relationship. I was unable to use him because my insurance was not accepted. When my insurance changed I made an appointment and then had to reschedule. When I was seen I was told I could not have an annual check up because the appointment was not written down correctly by the receptionist. I continued my care and irresponsibility missed my second appointment. I then received a letter dismissing me from the practice. I did not argue, just figured it was my own fault. Months later my husband called to schedule his annual appointment and was informed that he too had been dismissed. They also kicked out my adult son who has his own insurance policy. My mother had no knowledge of my dismissal and generously purchased me a $1500 laser hair removal package as a gift, which they refused to refund or allow me to use. Just be warned they punish your entire family for the mistake of one.

Nurse practitioner, Katie Duke, spent 4 minutes with new patient. Spoke to her nurse in the room instead of to the patient. Had not read any of the health history that the office required to be filled out ahead of time. She only did a partial exam. When asked to clarify and slow own she replied that everything would be written don by her nurse. Did not go over treatment options or risks/ benefits of these options. Dictated RX to her nurse and then left the room. Office staff not easy to deal with for follow up questions. Do not return phone calls.

Dr. McEwen and his nurse Jessica make a great team together. I had a rash that was bothering me and went to see my primary doctor and allergy doctor with zero answers of what was causing it, they just treated the symptoms. Dr. Mcewen is by far the most knowledgeable and inquisitive doctor I have EVER met, He was able to figure out what was causing the rash and took his time explaining everything to me, I seriously am so impressed with this doctor if I could I would make him my primary doctor. Also, short wait time in office and very courteous and professional staff, mainly Jessica who is his nurse, she is very knowledgeable as well and addressed any questions I had as well. I cant recommend him enough, phenomenal doctor with a kind and caring disposition! A++++ experience!
