After a terrible pregnancy and complications, our son was delivered prematurely at Hillcrest Hospital. The staff was amazing, best nursing unit I have ever seen at NICU. Upon meeting our sons cardiologist due to a heart murmur, we felt like we couldn't get a break. Post release from NICU, we had to take our son to see Dr. Challapudi at Hillcrest. She told us it is possible but very unlikely that he will need open heart surgery to fix his heart condition as it wasn't closing fast enough. A few months go by and all seems to be well, and we were assured that surgery was off the table. Leaving work, my wife calls me frantic and panicking that Dr. Challapudi left a voicemail that she sent his case to the review board and they opted for surgery. We had no idea that was their intention, were left out of the loop about his care and cause for treatment, and the level of immaturity to the sensitive nature of open heart surgery on an infant apparently left the stage. All is well since,… the surgery was cancelled because her prognosis was wrong. He did not need surgery, and his course for treatment has been adjusted with more apt and professional physicians from the Clinic. The wind this up, tread softly. She is a awful physician, and lost our trust, and worst of all, recommended for a very dangerous, life altering surgery unnecessarily.
