I and my husband are first time parents. Our daughter was 3 days old and for the past 8 hours at home we noticed concerning behavior changes, feeding changes, and barely any diaper changes which were all very concerning and happening to our poor baby girl. The main reason we went into to the cook children’s ER was due to increase in yellow skin ( jaundice)and lethargy and especially with all the concerns listed above that our daughter was presenting and we were both very concerned. This Dr. Devdas came in immediately and just asked me to go step by step over my breastfeeding schedule since that morning and would interrupt and question my feeding habits. Saying I was “over feeding our daughter” and “doing everything wrong” since I was feeding every 2.5-3 hours instead of right at 2 hours. This was said after stating my daughter was fed 1.5oz of breast milk that I pumped to make sure she was eating and it wasn’t a latching problem that I was concerned she was not get enough food and… causing the lethargy and behavior changes. Then to make things worse after our daughters temp was taken she had explosive diaper that needed to be changed and I was happy to see her finally poop considering that was one of concerns as well. I was literally trying to change my daughters explosive FIRST TIME since we got home from delivery hospital poop diaper That we’ve also been concerned about, and it finally happened after getting her temp checked via anally. And she just continued with bombarding my husband and I with questions about my feeding patterns with our daughter when we are here for jaundice and lethargy concerns that we think are correlated to our other concerns. I felt like this doctor was trying to make a statement that I don’t feed my daughter when I do and when I showed her my schedule that I took notes on ALL DAY that actually proved I was on top of caring for my daughter and feeding her she then immediately started bashing how “much” I was feeding her and staying I was now “over feeding”. Which 3 days later we went to our Pediatrician and he said 1.5 oz is totally fine if she’s not spitting up (which she wasn’t) or showing the full signs (which she wasnt). Anyways, I was actually here at the cooks ER trying to find out WHY my baby is not waking up for feedings and lethargic and her jaundice has gotten worse and this doctor continued to just question my feeding. Not impressed with this doctor. She came across as cold, heartless, and very unprofessional. She then came in 4 hours later with our daughters blood test results and stated everything “matter of fact my” and brushed all my questions aside. I was very upset with this whole situation. We will not be going to cooks ER if we have any further concerns. We will be going to children’s hospital in Dallas.
