Dr. Gemma Marie Lopez, MD

20+ years of experience with little reviews from her clients - probably because they don’t stick around long or they’re traumatized from being invalidated. I was diagnosed from my previous physician, was on meds for 1 year, and after seeing Dr. Lopez I was discontinued from meds and was given meds that gave me headaches. She was insistent that I try AGAIN even when I mentioned that I did not want to. She is pushy and does not listen. Im now paying out of pocket to see my previous doctor. I hope my comment will help someone because Dr. Lopez will waste your time.

So responsive, caring and really gets to know her patients before prescribing. Lots of follow up visits to make sure they are on the right track.

UCSF is a great place, Gemma Lopez is not a great doctor. She is so inflexible and by the book, she is oblivious to simple things. Having my son in treatment with her has been a nightmare - long and drawn out - there was no urgency on her part to getting his care managed. She has no concept of the individual person, or unique situation, she is strictly relying on what studies say, or books to guide her. Seems like she has no intuitive feelings as a psychiatrist, she is not confident or passionate, and has only delayed my son's treatment. I find her exasperating and would never recommend her for a teenager. Another person may say she was cautious, I say she continued to put roadblocks, change things and create more and more "hoops" for my son and I to jump through before getting him good care for an urgent issue. Clearly her shock and disapproval at teen partying, shows she has not been around many teens and cannot speak with them openly but only in a punitive, shaming way. I… say she's not in touch with teenagers in anyway.
