Dr.Genasci is amazing...he was great to my father and I.

Dr Genasci is superb. He saved my life. Two doctors had misdiagnosed my fever and chronic fatigue as the flu. Neither listened to my heart. "It sounds like Niagara Falls in there," he said. Something wasn't right. He ordered blood cultures, and 24 hours later the hospital called, asking I check in immediately. Within an hour after check-in I had 8 doctors in my room, including 3 cardiologists. The lining of my heart was infected with streptococcus, which had set up colonies around my calcified and frayed aortic valve. Strep and staph infections are commonly misconstrued to be the flu. By the time the patient has no recourse but the hospital it's often too late; nothing can be done, and the patient dies.

Dr. Genasci is extremely bright and intuitive. Though his bedside manner is excellent, this is not the most important thing to me as a patient. What is important is that he hears me out, understands and answers my more nuanced questions, and gives me practical advice. He never overmedicates, and actually substituted an internal medication with a topical, which actually worked better. I would follow this guy anywhere that I could get him!

As a patient, I felt listened to and heard by Dr. Genasci. Dr. Genasci was present and well-versed in the latest papers and treatments. I would recommend him highly.

When the ambulance delivered me to Kaiser Oakland's ER I had a low grade fever, chronic weakness, and I had toppled over on the job as I bent down to pick up something from the floor. I couldn't get back on my feet. ER, after making the standard exam--but never listening to my heart or taking blood samples--decided maybe it was just a mild case of the flu; they weren't sure. Check in with your PCP next week, ok? (It was Friday) Monday Dr Genasci was out-of-office. A phone call to his stand-in was filled with long silences as she leafed through her medical references trying to connect the symptoms to a condition. Tsk, no luck. No advice to come in for blood tests, either. Friday Dr Geno was back. After hearing my symptoms he listened to my heart, then said, "Can you go to the lab right now? I'm ordering blood cultures." Twenty-four hours later Kaiser Hospital called. I should check in immediately. I had a massive streptococcus infection in my heart, because my aortic valve… was frayed, and 30% closed, leaving the pressure inside my heart ten times the pressure outside, and perfect habitat for strep to colonize. Open heart surgery and a valve replacement later, I typed a thank-you email to Dr Geno, tears running down my face. "You saved my life."

Dr Genasci is the best primary care physician I have had in as long as I can remember. When he walks in the room, he is focused and becomes fully aware of the person he is speaking with. His advise and prescriptions have remedied my issues with much less invasive treatment that was previously prescribed. I will follow him if at all possible.
