Arrogant, demeaning and cocky! Zero bedside manner. Told me there was nothing he could do for me when I was in extreme pain. I asked why not, he shrugged his shoulders at me and treated me as though I was a junky trying to get pain meds. Let me lay in pain while he argued with me about why he thought my family docs medical treatment for my condition was wrong, although he claimed to know nothing about my condition. I asked if he could atleast get me out of pain, to which he smerked and reaponded " oh ok, ill give you morphine" as if thats all i was there for was a high! I have been a systemic lupus patient for 7 years. I was having the most painful flare up i had ever had and came to the er for help at 3 am and was treated as if I was the scum of the earth seeking drugs! He even documented in my records that I have a history of narcotic use, when I have not had a script for a narcotic since a surgery I had in 2011!! Whoever thought he was great on here has been sadly mislead! Shame on… St. Joseph medical center or any hospital for allowing him to treat patients this way!

I have 10 years of emergency nursing experience. DR Cancel and I had an unexpected wilderness rescue that we worked together on in Acadia National Park on the cliffs of Precipice Mountain. We had never met before. He stated his qualifications to the victim and quickly began to survey the situation for solutions. Being calm and cool, he was a great leader during the rescue and willingly accepted suggestions from others that were involved. He was quick to gain my respect and confidence when there was much at stake. Job well done.
