Summary

Dr. George Caldwell has extensive expertise in the care of athletes and in sports medicine. He was Chief Team Physician for the Miami Dolphins for 17 years and cared for the Miami Marlins during their two World Series wins.  He has also been the physician for a MLS Miami Fusion soccer team, the NHL Florida Panthers, and covers numerous high schools in the area. He has the thrill of being the Cirque du Soleil regional physician as well as a second opinion physician for the NHL.

His orthopedic training was at the renowned Hospital for Special Surgery (New York, NY). After, he had additional training by completing two fellowships, one at the University of Pittsburgh in Sports Medicine and one Shoulder Surgery Fellowship under Professor Christian Gerber in Switzerland.

Dr. Caldwell is regarded as one of the top Sports Medicine surgeons in the nation. He has been named to:

  • Best Doctors in America
  • Castle Connolly Top Doctors
  • Leading Physicians of the World
  • America’s Most Honored Professionals
  • Compassionate Doctor Award
  • Florida Super Doctors
Surgically, he specializes in arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder, elbow, and knee.  He receives many referrals for complex and advanced revision surgeries.

Adolescent ACL and shoulder injuries are a focus of Dr. Caldwell’s advanced care plans. These young adults have special needs well outside of typical pediatric issues. The post-operative care and rehabilitation of this age group is particularly complex and requires specialized protocols and expertise.

America’s opioid epidemic has rightfully concerned parents about surgery of their children. It is concern for this age group that led Dr. Caldwell to advance techniques to minimize adolescent post-operative opioid use.
