Dr. George Marshall Lyon, MD

This man is a coward. He should be ashamed to call himself 'doctor.' He has lost any concept of true patient care. Apparently he was asleep on the first day of med school when they taught him Dr. rule #1, listen to the patient. He with-holds treatment, fails to respond to repeated official messages through the Emory patient portal, refuses to pursue diagnosis, refuses to test and refuses to even see some patients (see review from '09) Apparently he's been up to the same tricks for a long time. He calls himself a Lyme specialist but his knowledge and expertise in this area is crude at best. He denigrates and ridicules patients to their face. He is afraid to test for or treat tick diseases properly because of outdated and highly flawed CDC guidelines. These arent laws they are GUIDELINES. But he is too much of a coward to step out of them even slightly to even attempt to help patients in dire need. He is more concerned with possibly losing his precious cash cow than he is with providing… genuine help and care. He represents what is wrong with the medical establishment in our country today. He is a disgrace to Emory and to the entire medical profession. I feel sorry for the desperate people that turn to this man in a last ditch effort for help. I was once one of them. Thank God I am no longer.

Took three weeks to get him to respond

Very pleased with Dr. Lyon.

Dr. Lyon restored my long-lost faith in doctors. When I told my mother about my visit she said: "Finally! A doctor with some good old-fashioned COMMON SENSE. I didn't think they made those anymore." Dr. Lyon is patient, gentle, and very astute. He has a strong command of general internal medicine, which makes him a far better specialist than most specialists. He sees the forest AND the trees. Likeable, too, which is very rare. If he has an ego, he hides it very well. The only downside is that his patients may want to keep going back even after they are well.

He prescribed the right medication and continued to monitor my health to make sure I was feeling better. He is very easy to talk to and explains things in a way that is easy to understand. He is an excellent listener and takes all the time he needs during your visit. Super great doctor!!

Sent all my records to Dr. Lyon's office for review, as required before they will make an appt, and they called to schedule an appt the same day the records were reviewed. Appt was scheduled for 2 weeks later. Drove 8 hrs to Atlanta and it was worth every mile!! He spent an hour with my wife and I and he took time to explain everything about my lyme disease and answered every question we presented. He prescribed the appropriate medication and continued to follow up. He has an EXCELLENT bedside manner and is very personable and thorough. I have alot of respect for Dr. Lyon, he helped me get my life back!! Thank you Dr. Lyon!

This physician was located by calling the Physician's Referal for Emory, and was said to be an infectious disease physician, with a "special interest" in Lymes Disease. He decided not to see her. She was bitten by a tick a year and a half ago, and has been shown by recent blood tests (sent to Dr. Lyons)to have recently had both Epstein Barre and Mono, both secondary infections from Lymes disease. She was told by her primary physician that she needed to be seen by an infectious disease physician. After telling her physician that she had located a physician with an interest in Lymes on her own, she contacted his office, with a huge feeling of relief, thinking she would finally find some help from her year-plus of the ever-increasing nightmare of symptoms she is experiencing. After sending Dr. Lyons her medical records, he had his nurse call with this reply: Since she received one week of antibiotics by a physician over a year ago (who admittedly had "no idea what it was" that was… causing her symptoms), and therefore has already been treated for Lymes Disease(???), he would not see her. Is this someone that you would want to examine, diagnose, and "treat" someone you love who is suffering from an undiagnosed, incapacitating illness? Absolute unconcern for the patient's suffering.
