Specialties

Dr. Glenn A Mackin has the following 5 specialties

  • Internal Medicine

An internist is a physician who focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of conditions that affect the adult population—both acute and chronic.
These doctors are often who adults see as their primary physicians because they treat a broad range of illnesses that do not require surgical or specialist interventions. They also work to help a patient maintain optimal health in order to prevent the onset of disease.
In addition to treating the common cold and flu, internists also treat chronic diseases like diabetes and heart disease.

  • Neuromuscular Medicine
  • Clinical Neurophysiology
  • Neurology

A neurologist is a physician who diagnoses and treats disorders of the nervous system which is comprised of the brain, spinal cord and nerves. These doctors do not perform surgery, but refer patients to neurological surgeons when they determine that surgical intervention is necessary.
Some of the conditions that neurologists diagnose and treat are epilepsy, aneurysms, hydrocephalus, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, stroke, spinal disc herniation, and spinal disease.
In addition to using diagnostic tests like MRI, CT scans, EEG and EMG, neurologists also employ neurological testing to gauge muscle strength and movement, balance, reflexes, sensation, memory, speech, and other cognitive abilities.

  • Psychiatry

A psychiatrist is a doctor with specific training in the diagnosis and treatment of mental illness.
He or she can not only provide the counseling necessary to both diagnose and treat a patient, but can also prescribe medication when needed. In some cases, a psychiatrist will only provide the medication and the counseling will be provided by another healthcare specialist, like a certified counselor or psychologist.
Like other doctors, psychiatrists employ diagnostic tools like CT scans and MRI in order to observe the structure and function of a patient's brain.
Once a diagnosis is made, these specialists may use behavior or cognitive therapy in order to address the patient's condition, or a multitude of other types of therapy, in conjunction with or in place of medication.

dr. mackin's review

dr. mackin is an extremely knowledgeable dr. he is very careful when he prescribes a new drug, making sure it corresponds well with other meds I am taking. he is a very nice man and seems to truly care about his patients. 2 negatives: he always runs late with appts. Positive: he now has a sign up as to how long one must wait. the other negative is that it is not easy to get an appt. with dr. mackin, yet he still accepts new patients. ?? only 2 negatives and many many positives as my overall rating shows.

dr. mackin is a very fine dr. he truly cares about his patients and is extremely knowledgeable about his field as well as other fields of medicine. he does all he can to make a patient's life easier, if at all possible. he is very good about communicating with my other doctors which is very important. Probably due to all of his excellent qualities, it is difficult to get an appt. quickly.

Dr. Mackin treated me during my hospital stay. He did everything above and beyond what was expected of him to do, including rearranging his testing schedule to get me in sooner so that I didn't have to suffer with my symptoms for another month and a half. He provided prompt reports and valued treatment recommendations to my other treating physicians to determine what is actually going on with me and my symptoms. I cannot thank him enough for everything that he has done, and the fact that he stated in his reports and to me that if there was anything else that he could do for me, to just call his office and he would help any way he could.Thank you so much!!!
