This review is specifically for GLENN SCHLUNDT. If there were a ZERO STAR option, that would be my selection.
If you're looking for a pediatrician who is arrogant, difficult to relate to, unsupportive, unprofessional and has questionable medical judgement, then look no further! You will find all of these qualities in Dr. Schlundt.
Special bonus: if your child has a legitimate medical problem, he will parent shame you and make you feel like a failure, offering no support, no guidance, and tons of condescension. Pediatricians should be child health advocates, but DR. SCHLUNDT BECAME OUR FAMILY'S ADVERSARY.
I write this review after having my two children at Rose City Pediatrics for 8 years. Our experience with Dr. Schludnt was going downhill every year, culminating this year in him misdiagnosing one of my daughters and treating her unnecessarily with a medication that caused her a week of unpleasant side effects (and a week of missed school). As if this wasn't bad enough,… the final straw came at our last visit, when Dr. Schlundt seemed agitated and frankly disgusted with me and my kids because they had gained weight since their last physical. I came in asking for a referral to a nutritionist, which he would not give me. Instead, his solution was to insist on multiple blood tests, possible liver ultrasounds, and an endocrinologist (?!?!). But NOT the nutrition referral I was seeking. He took me into his office, shut the door, and became frankly unhinged, madly typing things onto his smartphone and then waving it in my face, as though I could possibly see or understand what in the world was on the screen. He was pushing multiple prescriptions, lab orders and and referrals at me with little explanation. I felt corned and attacked. I have never in my life had an interaction with any healthcare professional like the one I had a few weeks ago with Dr. Schlundt. It left me in tears, and took me a week to recover from emotionally.
A few weeks after this disturbing interaction, we received one of his famous certified letters in the mail (see multiple Yelp reviews relating a similar experience) stating that he was FIRING us as patients. As a physician myself, I cannot imagine anything more PASSIVE AGGRESSIVE and UNPROFESSIONAL. I would never in my wildest dreams treat even the most difficult patient with so much disrespect. No explanation given, and when I tried to call him and demand one, his office manager ran interference, saying she had no more information and that he wouldn't be calling us back. For 8 years we were compliant patients who paid our bills on time and followed his every direction, and then out of the blue, Dr. Schlundt went off the rails and dumped us, without ever explaining why. There was no warning, no reaching out to us first. I'm still reeling from the whole thing. SIMPLY BEYOND UNPROFESSIONAL!
But why was I surprised... I should have read Yelp and seen the dozens of one star reviews stating that he is a disrespectful medication pusher who regularly fires patients by mail with no warning.
If you want to have your child overmedicated, given unnecessary prescriptions and subjected to invasive tests for little or no reason, Dr. Schlundt is your guy! When he wanted a blood draw on my 6 year old, I mentioned that she has a needle phobia (which she developed after a traumatic blood draw that Dr. Schlundt insisted she get, although, as a physician, I thought the indication was dubious). His solution was to give my 6 year old Valium! Then suggested that she might need Prozac for her needle phobia and mild anxiety. This is just one example that is emblematic of Dr. Schlundt's medical ethos and is characteristic of our long experience with him: intervene, medicate, prescribe, prescribe, prescribe!
Ironically, Dr. Schlundt thinks very highly of himself and seems to have a bizarre need to present himself as professorial and academic. This makes him difficult for kids and parents to relate to. Additionally, he is super closed minded and doesn't listen to his patients whatsoever. At our final appointment with him, he COMPLETELY blew off my 10 year old, who was trying to take charge of her health and ask questions during her physical. He barely acknowledged her concerns, made no eye contact with her, and didn't address her questions at all. He just madly scribbled in the chart, almost manically, without so much as looking up at her. She left wondering if there was something wrong with her. Shame on him.
Dr. Schlundt just needs to retire because the only thing I could think of at our last visit was, "Man, this guy seems to hate what he does and just seems SO BURNT OUT."
Sidebar: Rose City Pediatrics will nickel and dime you to death! We had ONE school medication form which required A SINGLE SIGNATURE. Cost: $35! And billing in general is extremely opaque. See many comments on Yelp about unnecessary charges and billing irregularities.
