Dr. Grant Cassidy Hughes, MD

Dr. Hughes takes his time with me and follows up with any of my questions or concerns. Dr. Hughes is able to explain procedures or why referrals are made to other specialists to which I understand. Communication is perfect; he is able to go beyond his scope of position to help me connect with other specialists. He acts like he really cares about his patients; for instance showing interest in what I say regarding any pain or what I am experiencing. He, or his team of medical assistants, follows up with any questions I have through ecare. Go team! Thanks to Dr. Hughes and his team in Rheumatology at HMC.

Dr. Hughes & staff are wonderful. It's Harborview, UW, or wherever... but Rheumatologists sometimes leave you waiting. There ARE some people who require more time. I'm one of those w comorbidities. They try. As a MA, I understand all this. TRUST me when I say doctors prefer to stay on schedule. He will allow residents to take over bc he respects the process of learning. This makes me appreciate him EVEN more. He has given me advice and helped w diagnosis. My Humira, after so long, actually gave me the psoriasis rash. Guttate to be exact. It means droplets. It looked like that! He had a dermatologist come in to assist & gave me a sauna suit. It worked phenomenally! He keeps in contact w my other doctors. My dermatologist especially! He LISTENS! He is a WEALTH of information. I'm so glad to have him. He knew my previous Rheumatologists... the list never ends. I'm so grateful to have him. My arthritis has made leaps & bounds in health & pain. Also, my skin rashes hahaha. Yay Dr. Grant… Hughes & staff of excellence!

I made an appointment with Dr. Hughes because I have a strong family history, including first degree relatives, with autoimmune issues. I waited an hour and a half to see Dr. Grant and he didn't interact with me at all. Instead, I saw the resident, who was attentive and empathetic as she took my history. I picked up on an air of condescension - sad, because I went into the appointment excited to meet him - and disbelief when Dr. Grant entered the room. I'll admit to experiencing a strange constellation of symptoms, but when you can't feel your legs or parts of your face, and autoimmune issues run in the family, it's not outrageous that I would seek out a rheumatologist. The appointment ended with the resident summarizing my symptoms and next steps. At the end of the appointment some blood tests were ordered. She also made uncomfortable eye contact with Dr. Grant and said, "and maybe you should talk with your doctor about a mental health referral." She must have read… my expression, because she softened her comment by saying, "ahem - you know, because of the mind-body connection." I didn't say anything, but my reaction was: wow, you are literally calling me crazy. Thanks for wasting two hours of my time, only to insult me and tell me I'm imagining my symptoms. Finally, as the appointment came to a close, he speaks: "I'll email you if there's any need for you to come back in." Thanks, but no thanks!
