Dr. Grayson Laurence Sugarman, MD

I came to him after graduating from college and not being from the area, not having an established doctor. This led him to tell me I should not “doctor shop” which was odd to tell someone when you are first welcoming them as a patient. I came primarily because I was having issues sleeping because of night shift and absolutely no other on the shelf sleeping meds still worked for me. He told me that the reason I can’t sleep is because I work the night shift (well yeah? can’t change my schedule) but in order to live a somewhat normal life I was gonna need a stronger sleeping medication. I felt like I basically had to convince him to prescribe me something and that this was effecting all aspects of my life. I have no history or drug abuse, addiction. Yet, he acted like any of these drugs id go on I would most likely abuse and id have to come back to get them refilled. I left with ambien, low dose atarax, and a feeling from him that somehow -I- did or was asking for something wrong.

Awful place to establish care at. During my physical I brought up that I have asthma (which I have had since I was born) and that triggered them to code my visit as standard appointment and not just a yearly physical. This caused insurance to charge me. I spoke for months with people from the office about this and they insisted this is their standard billing practice. This is 100% a money grab. I do not trust this office.

Dr. Sugarman is the most selfish and cold doctor I have ever met. Every time I visited him, he dismissed my symptoms and treated me like an inconvenience. Luckily, I dropped him and found another physician who actually cares about me and takes my concerns seriously. Please, do not go see him.

DR. SUGARMAN IS THOROUGH, DOES NOT RUSH ME, SEEMS TO REALLY CARE ABOUT ME, NEVER MAKES ME WAIT LONG. THE KINDEST PHYSICIAN I'VE MET IN MY 87 YEARS AS SOMEONE'S PATIENT.

First time seeing him, refusing to fill my medications because he asked if I smoke marijuana and he didnt believe me when I said "No". I asked for a drug test which he refused and then proceeded to tell me, "If I can afford weed than I can afford to see a psychiatrist". I actually cried in the office after he said that since I'm on Medicaid and its nice to be reminded of how poor you are. MEAN guy!

I'm amending my review below after seeing another doctor. It turns out Dr Sugarman gave me incorrect information and told me there was no generic equivalent for Viagra although Sam's Club had it on their list under their Plus membership pricing program. When faced with this information, he told me that the drug was in the form of an injection instead of a tablet. It turns out that wasn't true. In addition, my new doctor had no problem writing out the three prescriptions I originally tried to obtain through Dr Sugarman in a manner to obtain the discounted Sam's Club Plus Program price. I think the issue here is Dr Sugarman is young and inexperienced, and when he was confronted with the mistake he couldn't admit it. Instead, he made up the story about the Viagra only being at that price in an injectable form to cover up his mistake hoping that I would believe it.

The doctor and staff are really nice people. Except for one occasion (which I will get to below), the doctor has a really great demeanor and is very knowledgeable. He is well-intentioned. So, hereâ??s why I left his practice and got another doctor. His conscientious and ethical approach in many ways is quite admirable. However, he gets too technical. Samâ??s Club gets a number of medications in bulk and passes those savings onto its Plus Card members. However, the catch is the prescription must be written for a specific size pill and generally in a 30 day quantity. To accommodate, I have either split the pills or taken additional tablets. None of my previous doctors before moving to the area have ever had a problem doing this, and I was currently taking a prescription that was carried over from a previous doctor in this manner (which Dr. Grayson also prescribed refills for several times). When I asked him to change the prescriptions to be written to where I could… get them for free or for a substantial discount at Samâ??s Club, he outright refused. In fact, he refilled them as is without even addressing the notes left through the My Chart portal requesting they be written differently. When I inquired and told him as written the prescriptions were prohibitively expensive, he condescendingly said that he doesnâ??t determine the prices of drugs and that he doubted there was that much of a price difference. I donâ??t know if he was having a bad day or something, but I have never seen him be this way. So, I confirmed he wasnâ??t going to change the prescriptions. To his credit (which I learned when he advised me on it), one prescription on the Samâ??s Club price list wasnâ??t for my application. So, I will give him that. However, on one all he had to do was change the quantity. On the other, I normally took 1000 mg, but the price list was for 500 mg. So, I take two pills instead of one. He said that size was a daily tablet instead of for episodic situations, such as in my case. He said I was asking him to change my diagnosis and commit fraud. That isnâ??t what I was asking! So, I wrote back and said itâ??s his prerogative how he wants to write the prescriptions, that it was my prerogative to find another doctor that will write them differently (which many have no problem doing) and that I would find another doctor. I received no further response. There is one other thing that bothered me about this guy. When I booked my first appointment with him, I was told before booking that he does not prescribe narcotics. So, it you have an injury that canâ??t be totally rectified by therapy, you are going to suffer in pain.
