Dr. Gregory James Kato, MD

Dr. Kato graduated from the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. He completed a residency in pediatrics at Childrens Hospital of Los Angeles, and fellowship in pediatric hematology-oncology at the Johns Hopkins Childrens Center. He is currently an investigator and director of the Sickle Cell Vascular Disease Section in the Pulmonary and Vascular Medicine Branch of the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, and senior staff physician in the Critical Care Medicine Department at the NIH Clinical Center. He serves as part-time faculty at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and attending physician at Howard University Hospital. His research involves mechanisms of vascular complications of sickle cell disease, especially pulmonary hypertension, and finding new therapeutic approaches for this vasculopathy.
