Dr. Gregory William Shields, MD

As a fellow physician, this m.d. is quite frankly, a jerk. His bedside manner is abysmal, his haughty pride is embarrassing, and his medical decision making is terrible and frequently dismissive. Not only is he a terrible physician, he is a terrible human being.

The lack of care and poor bed side manners from this “ DOCTOR” is truly sickening. EAH is too good of a company to have such a terrible doctor on their staff . I’ve never experienced anything like this. And all the other physicians and staff have been amazing besides him !!

Dr. Shield came in and told my family that my grandfather was old and this is what happens when you are old and its going to happen to all of us one day. That he recommends sending him back to the VA with hospice to let him die comfortable. My grand father fell on sunday and broke his hip. On Tuesday they took him to surgery and fix his hip. Wednesday he was real lethargic and unable to stay awake but would wake up to verbal or tactile stimui. On thursday dr. Shileds calls and we come up to hospital because he said he wasnt doing good and couldnt swallow and his wishes are to never have a PEG tube. And tells us the plan for hospice becuase this is dementia progression and he is not going to get any better. Well im a RN in longterm care and see these type of patients every day. It takes longer that 48hrs for them to bounce back from anesthesia. My family talked it over and were not comfortable with dr. Shileds diagnosis. So i went and got him an enusre and he drank 3/4 of it perfectly… fine. And today he is even better and advanced from NPO to pureed diet with thin liquids. Very disappointed in a physician just writing us off and not giving him a fighting chance.

As a recent inpatient at SEAMC, I feel fortunate to have had Dr. Shields as my care giver. I found him to be competent, with excellent bed side manners. He took time to explain my condition, answer my questions and relate to me as a person, not condition. I would recommend him without reservation.
