Dr. Gulrukh Rizvi, MD

When I moved to Eugene, I searched for a concierge practice here. The Internet gave me Dr. Rizvi. I joined her practice about 10 months ago. Since then, I've noticed that the lifelong knot that appears in my stomach at the thought of seeing a doctor has softened. I've found a competent, communicative doctor who is a healer, not a pill pusher. She’s easy to talk to; she listens and hears. The interaction I’ve experienced with her is collaborative, not coercive. I think I've found a genuine partner for my medical care.

I'm a senior citizen who experienced traumatic medical care as a child and has viewed doctors as something to be avoided if possible ever since. After necessary surgery a few years ago, I found a concierge practice for follow-up. That was a surprisingly good experience, quite different from today's usual corporate medical care. I first encountered Dr. Rizvi when she worked for PeaceHealth for 8 years and she was a great doctor, but now that she's out on her own and can actually spend some time with patients (30+ minutes appointments, when needed!) she has really shined. She's practicing medicine the way it used to be; she listens and learns about her patients and does not just dispense pills. She does her best to get to the root of the problem and always helps walk me through the issue and is great at explaining the "why" behind the medical process. She doesn't care what, if any, insurance you may have (I don't have any) as she works for her patients and not insurance companies. I have recommended family and friends to her new practice and anyone who meets her agrees, she's the best doctor in town!

Having encountered this "care professional" not long ago, I had initially not wanted to trash the whole establishment she had been working in at the time... but now that she's apparently on her own, it seems the time has come for my cautionary tale to be told. Put simply: Rizvi (I'm not going to call her a "doctor") prioritizes shallow personal judgements made about patients. Which is to say that she'll not even feign anything more than open contempt if she doesn't happen to like you. And looking at other reviews of her in particular, I'm not the only one to discover this. Most doctors know little & care less. We've all been through the revolving door of "I can't believe you're inconveniencing me with your crap; take these pills and get lost". But with Rizvi, there isn't even that barely maintained facade of professionalism: it's just a lot of (frankly) hostile smirking, interrupting, ignoring... The kicker being that I ordered the records of her notes, and found that the tone… there wasn't any better. She really just doesn't care what your situation is if your personality doesn't happen to be immediately appealing to her. Although my guess would be that she's probably holding her nose a bit longer with her patients, now that the spotlight is directly on her. And more exposed to reviews like this one. So if you want your health in the hands of a "physician" whose social skills never deigned to evolve beyond the level of a cliquey high school snob - thus glibly stifling solutions that may otherwise be easily at hand - I would strongly recommend Rizvi.

She was very smart and caring. She answered all my questions well and listened to my concerns intently. I would recommend Dr. Rizvi to a friend.
