Dr. Halina Phyllis Wiczyk, MD

I've never chosen to rate a physician before but I feel that I cannot help but do my best to have others try to avoid any experience with Dr. Wiczyk. I will not go into personal details but as a woman facing fertility issues, I would expect more compassion and understanding from a fertility specialist that I was asked to consult with by my primary gynecologist. As a nurse, I understand that not everyone who works in healthcare has the best bedside manner, particularly physicians. But this is a very, very sensitive area for many women/couples to be dealing with, and those who work with these individuals should have some appreciation for the sensitivity involved. Dr. Wiczyk walked into the room to meet me for my consult and without even introducing herself said to me, "I don't even know what you're doing here. There's nothing I can do for you." To say that I was flabbergasted and appalled would be an understatement. She then said to me that the only things she had to… discuss with me was should I be taking a hormone replacement and also that I needed to start doing some weight-bearing exercises because I was clearly at risk for osteoporosis. While this may have been the case, I was still reeling from her initial comment to me. I had brought my sister with me to this appointment, and she had been seeing another fertility physician from another group herself at the time, and all I could think of was getting her out of the room and away from Dr. Wiczyk. I've never asked for a second opinion but I walked out of Dr. Wiczyk's office after spending less than 5 minutes with her, and called my gynecologist and asked for referral to another fertility physician. When I told her what was said to me, she was shocked, saying that she never would have referred me to Dr. Wiczyk if she thought that that was what would be said to me, regardless of how it was said to me. Please consider going to Dr. Howe in East Longmeadow, MA. He was patient, understanding, listened well and provided me with more options that I was given by Dr. Wiczyk. I would NEVER refer anyone to see Dr. Wiczyk and want to share my experience so that others may avoid her as well. Worst medical experience of my life with her.
