I went to Dr. Kim for disc surgery on the advice of another surgeon. His skills are excellent but he did not tell me how much pain I would be in after the surgery, and at the six week point did not answer most of my questions. He seemed to fault me for not taking an opiod (Oxycontin) after the surgery. On the other hand, the surgery went well. So if you need any TLC I would seek another doctor.

At my initial appointment he was very attentive, discussed all options answered all our questions, no rushing. Very pleased with his overall demeanor. At this writing have had my surgery (stenosis, L2-L5 laminotomy) and very happy with results. Recuperation questions answered promptly by his PA. Post surgical visit scheduled in a week.

Please don't see this doctor, I recommend that you go to Cornell Spine and Brain Center whose surgeons are all neurosurgeons and not orthopedic surgeons, big difference. I was operated by this doctor and ruined my entire neck, I came in I could still walk, run and jump and now I couldn't and had to learn how to walk all over again.

Unbelievably rude staff! I love Dr Kim but his staff is really disrespectful, whether it be on the phone or in person. They think they are surgeons, drs, etc. and they always try to make you feel stupid even when they are the ones who made the mistakes. I wonder why they treat patient suffering, in pain, the way they do? Why do they still have a job? Who hired them? They actually hang up the phone while you are talking to them. OBNOXIOUS DISRESPECTFUL PEOPLE.

This was the 2nd time I had neck fusion. Dr Kim did a great job the day after my surgery I had 0 pain

I was referred within HSS and if there's a negative star, he doesn't deserve even one star. Both female assistants aren't easy to deal with considering people go there for pain management and understand the underlying pathology. I could just imagine how difficult for him to be at HSS in a predominantly white environment. I was hesitant although the reviews I got was superb, it wasn't in my case. I would recommend Cornell Brain and Spine Center.

He gave me a diagnosis that I did not have, gave me referrals to see 2 additional doctors that did not take my insurance and one was a wrong number, who ended up no longer practicing at that location? When I called for additional follow up information, I never heard from him again. I was hung up on by his staff, for requesting that my MRI disk be returned so that I could go to another doctor, and was told that it was THEIR property. I informed them that it certainly was NOT their property and was at that time hung up on. I called back and got voicemail. Never got a return call, but the disk was returned in the mail several days later. I spent 2 hrs getting to the appointment, with all paperwork filled out and all requested documentation in hand, only to wait an additional hour to be seen and Dr. Kim never looking at the MRI until I asked if he saw it?? He did an X-Ray and gave me a diagnosis based on that, which was wrong. My private physician attempted to contact their office several… times to understand why he diagnosed me with something that I clearly did not have and his calls, also were never returned. Very unprofessional and certainly NOT what I expected from HSS. I brought my daughter there for more than 10 years and was always grateful for the service and care she received, which is why, when I needed care myself, I thought I was making the right decision. Boy, was I wrong!! Or maybe HE just doesnt belong there? Bad experience and would not recommend this Dr...or his staff!!!

I cannot recommend Dr. Kim (and HSS) highly enough. His treatment of my cervical stenosis with myelopathy -- without fusion -- two years ago transformed me from debilitated to spritely, which I remain today at 84 years of age. The quality of his care and character are worth traveling even much farther than from my home in Washington, DC. And that is consistent with my experience of other HSS specialists, including Dr. Cross (for my subsequent knee replacements) and others many years ago (for my mother!).

He operated on my back and all I can say is I wish I had been to him from the beginning. Sixty percent of his practise is fixing prior back surgeries
