Dr. Harold Frank Adelman, MD

I wouldn't go this doctor because of his secretary. She was unclear on the timeframe in which we were supposed to talk. The Dr was 11 minutes late and it wasn't communicated; I had another appt after this one and couldn't run over. She wouldn't listen to what I was saying and frequently cut me off. You'd think an admin for a psychiatrist would be more respectful, considerare and thurough. Instead of being professional after we were clear, I was hung up on. As black professional woman myself, there are enough negative stigmas from people outside of the culture, I was disappointed to be treated like this by someone I should be able to relate too and who works in such a sensitive medical space.

I apologize to Dr. Adelman & his staff (Angela specifically) for my delay in writing this review. I've been a patient of Dr. Adelman for over a year, and have nothing but great things to say. A bit of medical history before I begin… I’ve been on a particular medication, prescribed by my Primary Care Physician (PCP) in California for several years. In 2017 I made the move to the Austin Texas to be closer to family, and assumed I would continue to receive this medication from whomever my new PCP doctor ended up being. Due to the timing of the move, I essentially arrived in Texas with just under a month of medication left. It took me around 3 weeks to get into my new PCP, although I wasn't too overly concerned as they assured me over the phone that taking over the prescription would not be a problem. Upon arriving for my visit, I was told by the doctor that he wasn't familiar with the medication and therefore would not be able to prescribe it. I was left having to track down a physician… in the next 7 days who would be able to cover the medication. I called several doctors, only to be told the next new-patient appointment was over a month away…. I was in a panic, and fearing the worst. I then called Dr. Adelman’s office and was greeted on the phone by Angela. I explained my situation, and she was able to schedule me for a visit the VERY NEXT DAY. Upon arriving I completed the new patient paperwork, and was promptly taken in the back. I explained my history, provided my medical records and hit it off with Dr. Adelman. He quickly identified my issue and was able to continue the life-saving medication that I had been stable on for the past 4+ years. It was truly a blessing to have been able to get into him on such short notice, and I’m thankful to this day for that opportunity. He takes the time to really understand what is going on with you, and really does care about his patients. I enjoy every visit and consider both Dr. Adelman and Angela friends. In addition I’ve never waited more than 5-10 minutes at most to be seen, as they don’t over-schedule patients like most physicians. They have truly been a blessing, and have made my move to Texas that much more enjoyable. If you guys are reading this, thank you once again for your dedication to your profession. Regards, -B.

Dr Adelman is wonderful. He listens well and asks questions. He is very insightful and kind. Very approachable and has a sense of humor which is very refreshing! Most doctors I've seen in the past--and there have been several--take themselves too seriously. Dr Adelmen takes his patients seriously without being clinical. Even his assistant Angela is awesome! I highly recommend this office!

For a psychiatrist in this day and age, he takes time to actually LISTEN to you. Most psychiatrists tell you to go to a counselor to express your emotions, but he doesn't, even though he encourages it at every chance. He was one of the few who checked to see what was going on in your life before he changed or increased medications. He is fantastic and I'm sorry he's still NOT practicing in Kerrville.

incompetent staff. only interested in payment. i was very disappointed. Staff was horrible and never knew what was going on, had to always put me on hold for simple questions.

Excellent doctor who is very knowledgeable and has been very helpful. I would highly recommend this doctor.

he went out of his way to help me with my issues. I would recomenend him to anyone that has a problem.

He knows what he is talking about. I'm happy with him.

This doctor spent the very few minutes I had with him with his head in the file, writing or reading. He rarely looked at me and it did not feel as though he was particularly interested in listening to anything I said. I'm not much of a talker, and this psychiatrist seemed completely unconcerned with what I had to say. Over the course of a few months, he continually changed my diagnosis. He also tried to get me to buy magnets for back pain, which he was selling - a business separate from his medical practice. I find this in very poor taste. I also arrived on a couple of occasions to find pharmaceutical sales reps wining and dining the entire clinic. It did not seem to matter to the staff that this caused appointments to run extremely late. Seemed very unethical.
