Dr. Harold Zalman Friedman, MD

I am the daughter of an elderly, now deceased patient of Dr. Friedman. My mother lived to be 93--she lived an extra five years of life because of Dr. Friedman. Today I googled Dr. Friedman because I may need to see a cardiologist myself. When I saw two negative and scathing reviews I wanted to give a rebuttal to those negative reviews. Firstly, I am sorry that you did not have a good experience, but is it possible that you are distressed over your personal life situation and taking it out on the doctor? One of the reviewers stated that Dr. Friedman was "old" and possibly not up on the latest--lol. While Dr. Friedman is not freshly out of medical school, he is definitely not what I would call old. lol As for staying current, Dr. Friedman is very current. I suggest you ask any other Beaumont doctor about Dr. Friedman and any who know him will back that up. One of the reviewers commented that he had suggested surgery for her loved one when other doctors recommended medication. I had a… non heart surgery (by a different doctor) that allowed me to get off of medication and vastly improved my life. I had strongly disliked being chained to a medicine bottle. So your comment about Dr. Friedman having suggested surgery is relative. The reviewer also mentioned possible greed--I never saw any behavior from Dr. Friedman that would imply greed. On the contrary, Dr. Friedman came to visit my mother in her room at Beaumont hospital just prior to her having gone home for in home hospice care. All physical remedies had been exhausted and yet, still, this very talented doctor and surgeon of the anatomical heart became a doctor of the human heart. They shared a conversation in the hospital room that consisted, I believe, of two people who respected and cared for each other saying goodbye. It is obvious that I respect Dr. Friedman as a cardiologist and as a person. It is also obvious, from all of the other five star reviews, that he has overwhelmingly created many happy patients. I believe that he would also receive five star reviews from other doctors regarding his knowledge, expertise and capabilities. But don't take my word--ask around!

I'm so grateful to Dr Friedman. My dad went in for a routine exam, Dr Friedman wouldn't finish the exam and told me to check my dad in to Beaumont for an emergency heart cath. Dr Friedman was 100% spot on in the urgency. My dad ended up having 99% blockage and was given just days to live if he didn't have a triple bypass. My dad is alive today thanks to Dr Friedmans due diligence. Thank you Dr Friedman for saving my dad's life.

I took my mother to see Dr. Friedman, and he recommended an invasive procedure. I went for two other opinions, and both cardiologists recommended medication only. I was told the procedure was unnecessary! He could have hurt my mom. I called him back with this information and he never returned my call. He is older and might not know up to date information, or maybe he is just greedy as the procedure is expensive. Just a warning because there isn't many ways to share bad doctors. My mom is doing ok now and I hope she keeps feeling well.

After bypass surgery had appointment scheduled. Friedman did not leave his house for 45 minutes after scheduled time. It then took 40 minutes to see him. He walked out of exam room after 5 minutes without answering my questions. I was having difficulty breathing. I had to see another doctor to find out that I had a damaged diaphragm.

On My first visit he corrected former Doctors inaccurate diagnosis. Performed several tests to verify his thoughts. Told me about his credentials, which put me at ease. Takes plenty of time on each visit, never making me feel rushed or that I'm infringing on his time. Excellent bedside manner, with a little touch of humor (which also helps). Staff is excellent as is making appointments. Being so good, he does book up quite a while in advance, so be sure to make next appointment before leaving the office. I Recommend Dr Friedman to anyone with cardiac challenges.

My mother was very fortunate to receive a referral to Dr. Friedman. When it seemed that another dr. may have given up due to my mother's age (87) Dr. Friedman persevered knowing that my mother still had alot of life left in her. Her congestive heart failure had been slowing her down but after she received a pace maker and started attending cardiac rehab she was like a different person. Dr. Friedman does not descriminate against the elderly, unfortunately, I feel that some doctors do. All in all, Dr. Friedman and staff have been wonderful. I have been to the Mayo Clinic and feel that Oakland Cardiology provides the same level of knowledge, courtesy and experience that the Mayo Clinic does. P.S. A special acknowledgement to Julie, the P.A., she has been wonderful.

Very engaging, down to earth and professional. Takes the time to understand the person and how best to communicate. Straight talking, likeable, but inspires confidence and personal action.
