Dr. Harry Hamlyn, MD

An amazing human being and the best doctor I've ever met. I didn't know I could live like a normal person until I met Dr. Hamlyn.

Her illness was admittedly long and complex, beginning as a teen involving the lethal combination of psychosis, and drugs, usually provided by physicians. But she was brilliant and became very wealthy, owing a highly successful silicon valley executive search company. Yet there was a stark family history of psychosis; she had headaches. A Stanford neurosurgeon operated on a benign cyst, against all other neurological advice, and injured her parietal lobe. She was never able to work again and began many years of recurring acute psychotic episodes, treated with many drugs, and before each psychotic break, aderal or ritalin, which act like a super-cocaine. Three of her family members live in Rapid City, and have rescued her and tried to obtain long term treatment: 72 hour holds, court sessions, a few days at Yankton, the works. There have been 5 suicidal attempts, two very nearly successful. Yet Dr. Hamlyn didn't seem to care about a full history, or what family… members wanted to tell him. He acted as if his sacred priestly conceit prevented even listening to them. As if he and his unfortunate patient were the only two people in the world. He seemed completely ignorant of what it is to be a whole physician -- as if psychiatrists are not physicians. So ended long running tragic life and then a death. that could have been Neither legislation, common sense, nor common humanity deny a physician the right to Dr Hamlyn avoided attempts to speak to him, and repeatedly pronounced her not a danger to her self or to others. The last time was only days before she stole a gun and shot herself in the head.
