Difficult to get appointment with. Pushes IBS program for non IBS patients. Rushes off toward end of appt. Doesn't advise if you need follow up appt or give you the chance to ask questions. Nurse comes in and tells you that you can go and has no idea whether a follow up should be scheduled or when

He listens, is diligent and comes up with a plan to help you when no other dr seems to even try. He is what you hope for in a Doctor,and is highly knowledgeable.

I had been struggling with gastro-intestinal issues for approximately two years and was ultimately directed to Dr. El-Serag at the Baylor Clinic. During our first visit, Dr. El-Serag listened patiently as I repeated a 2-year history of emergency room visits, multiple scans and testing, and my most recent hospital stay involving vocal chord spasms brought on by what the emergency room physicians described as uncontrolled acid reflux. Dr. El-Serag understood my sense of urgency and, within five calendar days of my first visit, performed a very thorough endoscopy, and two calendar days later, scheduled me at the St. Luke's gastro-intestinal clinic for an esophogeal motility test and a 24-hour impedance ph-monitoring test. Anyone who has had any experience with these kinds of tests knows that there is usually a 3-week to 6-week delay in scheduling this difficult but important testing, yet Dr. El-Serag ensured I got these tests done within 7 calendar days of our first visit. Once the… test results were available, he contacted me on my cell phone beyond his office hours to check on me; we scheduled a follow-up visit within 2 weeks at which point he advised that my condition was not reflux related but rather related to an extra-sensitive upper GI condition brought on by anxiety, stress and/or heightened levels of nervousness. Dr. El-Serag spent considerable time explaining the basis for his opinion and, after listening to the logic in his arguments, I agreed. Since that time, my condition has improved considerably and I am forever grateful to Dr. El-Serag for listening to my concerns and sensing my urgency, expediting the necessary testing, and helping me understand the true nature of my health issues. Dr. El-Serag is quite clearly an expert in his field and assumes very important roles in his profession. He is also kind and patient; he is one of the very best doctors I have ever known.

I went to Dr. El-Serag for a second opinion. He explained thorougly the diagnosis, my options and the procedures. I would highly recommend him.

I am not very satisfied with this doctor. I had a procedure done on me which didn't go well because the staff at the surgery facility didn't give me the right directions and then tried to make it look like it was my fault. Additionally, I have not received any communications from the office regarding my test results even though it is well over the 10 business days that they tell you to wait. When I call the office I am told they're going to call me back and they haven't done it yet after 2 calls and 1 e mail. It is a shame because I chose the doctor based on the good reviews I read on different web sites.
