Dr I-Hsuan Shen, DO

Dr. Shen was pretty good when we first saw her. Now she is terrible - not friendly, helpful or caring. We changed PCP, won't see her anymore.

I have to say, Ive been with Dr Shen since 2003, Ive been to multiple appointments with her and not once have I ever had any distrust in her medical advice or treatment plans. She found my husbands Rheumatory Arthritis, she found my own breast cancer early. She tends to my mother's medical needs as well as both my children's needs. Both her staff and her bedside manner is the very best Ive ever seen. I value her medical advice and treatment plans. I would highly recommend her medical services.

Takes her time with you on an office visit and seams to care about your health she is the best Doctor I have had in the last 25 years.

I had just switched to her as my Primary for a whooping cough vaccine, which doesn't even require meeting with a doctor because the nurse can do it. She wanted to see me since it was my first visit at her office and it was a good thing she did because even though I went in for a vaccine she decided to just give me a quick look over and noticed I had a small lump in my neck. Even though I had no symptoms she recommended me to have an ultrasound. The follow up of the ultrasound lead to a biopsy. I am glad I had Dr. Shen as my doctor because she helped lead to my diagnosis of thyroid cancer early and was the reason why I had quick and early treatment. If she had not been a thorough and caring doctor, who knows if and when I would be diagnosed with cancer and how far along it would have been before it would have been taken care of.

I first seen this dr. on a monday , i had severe abdominal pain and other stomach issuse. I was she seemed concerned and then admitted me to the hospital overnight, tuesday morning she stopped in first thing and said my test showed minimal problem then i was discharged with the idea i was to see a specialist that week, i have now no apt with the specialist and my situation has escalated to an even worse problem.I keep getting we are trying to get you an apointment and we will send the dr. a message of your problems but still nothing, i'm very discouraged because we have an hmo and chose this dr. for our primary care dr. i'm now having to resort to going to the er for abdominal pain and not having a bowl movement for 3 days because they have no idea what is wrong with me, and wont modify or precribe any medication that might help.

Both my wife & I selected Dr. Shen as our general practitioner. In our appointments with her, she is prepared and has reviewed our files. She is personable, takes her time, and listens carefully to any complaints or symptoms and is very good at zeroing in on what the problem might be.Dr. Shen made a point to schedule follow up tests both to ascertain our general conditions but also to verify her tentative diagnosis.We both have a very positive impression of Dr. Shen and are confident in her skills.

First time, I got in right away, but got the "new patient" Treatment. Some weird "nurse" or "doctor" was spending an uncomfortable amount of time and scribbling a lot of information on this note pad that didnt' seem to have any forms on. He's asian, just like the Doctor and didn't seem to know much English or seemed older and confused. (I'm asian also.) He told me that my kidney stone would pass or might have passed already. When the actual Dr. Shen came, he was asking her question and she told him that there's no way that I could have passed the stone without knowing it considering the size. She said to wait it out or go to a urologist. Of course I waited it out and she said to see her if it didn't pass. I gave them my emergency room info. about the size and visit for them to copy and keep on file at this time. Next visit, I waited a long time to get in. When I finally got in, she asked why I was seeing her. She didn't even have my file! I even told the secretaries why I was seeing… her. She couldn't find any of my files and couldn't get my info. from the sutter gould hospital she was affiliated with. In the end, she just referred me to a urologist. She could have done this over the phone! I wasted an afternoon, just to be told this and they didn't even have any of the information from the previous visit, considering how much notes the "nurse" was taking and the copies they made of my files. Very unprofessional and has the facility has a dirty, worn out, old look to it.

Worst Dr I have ever seen. She did not wash her hands, she talked over me when I tried to answer her questions. She left me waiting for a very long time in the exam room awhile she socialized in the hallway. Then she seemed to be in a big rush through the brief appointment. I asked for a glucose test because of personal and family history of diabetes. She laughed and told me to loose weight. Even though I complained of severe dry itchy skin and have that history. I went to another Dr the next week. I am diabetic.
