Condescending and rude, time to retire

Find another Dr!!

I was scheduled for a surgical procedure with Dr. Atlas, but had some concerns the week before and asked his nurse if he could call me first, he never did. I subsequently had to cancel the procedure. I called the office the next day and spoke with his nurse who asked me to come into the office. I showed up on time and was escorted to an exam room. Several minutes later Dr. Atlas walked into the room and seemed very annoyed. He asked why I didn't show up for the surgery. I began to tell him about my concerns, but before I could say more than a couple of words he interrupted me and said "I'm not dealing with you anymore." I was shocked by his attitude and indifference. When I asked him who I should see or if he had a referral, his answer was "I don't care, go to Albany, go wherever you want." Everytime I attempted to speak he'd cut me off, he was extremely curt with me the entire time. After a couple of minutes of being extremely rude and talking over me, he walked out leaving the… door partially open, seconds later I hear him say to someone in the hallway "I've got to get rid of all these dregs on me."  I was shocked by how callous and rude he was and that he would say such a hurtful thing. I was even more shocked that he'd abandon me as his patient without referring me to another urologist, especially since I have an obstruction and have been in chronic pain. It was clearly unethical of him to leave me without medical care or a referral to another doctor, simply because he was upset that I cancelled the surgery. His attitude and behavior were very unprofessional. Dr. Ian Atlas was one of the kindest and most personable doctors I've ever had the pleasure of dealing with! His genuine care for people really comes through in the way he treats you and talks to you. When he is with you, you have his full attention and he explains things very clearly. It is obvious that he wants you to really understand. Dr. Atlas treats you like a person and not just another patient.

Dr. Atlas does not map out a plan for your treatment. The office calls to ask you for money to cover your copay prior to the procedure. However, the office is not concerned enough to schedule your check-ups after the procedures. this is important for cancer patients who must follow-up every 3 or 6 months. Everyone is totally indifferent. I can compare this to 2 other doctors and offices who automatically do this.

He has been my urologist for 20 years. I have complete faith in his abilities. He has an excellent rapport with patients.
