Dr. Ileana Calinoiu, MD

I really enjoyed working with Dr. Calinoiu until she ignored her patients with no warning, didn't return calls or emails and never notified anyone why. She was treating my sister as well who had a psychiatric emergency and despite repeated attempts to contact Dr. Calinoiu, she never responded. This type of behavior should not be tolerated, especially for doctors working with people who have mental health issues. It makes me sad that someone who seemed to care so much when in person ended up being such a flake.

I began seeing Dr C. in 2004 when I was 15 and she was still working at Children's Hospital. I was so happy that she had a private practice close to my home on the east side. She never talked down to me; she was personable, reasonable, and knowledgeable, and I felt like she truly cared for me. I have anxiety about doctor appointments, but I always felt at ease with Ileana and I looked forward to seeing her. I moved out of state in 2014 and when I returned the following year she got me right back on her schedule. Later that year, I was doing an intake appointment at Eating Recovery Center and I was surprised to see her in the office. She was working with the adolescent patients there, but since she was already my established doctor, I saw her while I was there rather than the other psychiatrist in the adult program. My experience at ERC overall was pretty unhelpful. But after I discharged, I emailed her (as usual) to request prescription refills and to set up an appointment. It was not… unusual for her to be a bit slow with her replies- but after several days, I called, texted, emailed again and never received any reply. I was on meds that were unsafe to abruptly discontinue, and I was never notified of any change nor did I receive the legally required notice for discontinuation of services. This is patient abandonment and indeed a violation of the Hippocratic oath, as it certainly caused harm and was entirely avoidable. It seems as though she just decided to not care enough to reply or even offer a few references to other providers as is expected. I have been angry about this for years and quite frankly am traumatized. Whenever I have any issues contacting my providers, my thoughts immediately are, "oh no. Is it happening again? Do I have to find another doctor? How am I going to get my meds?" What is worse, I have acquaintances who have worked at ERC/Pathlight BH very recently and she still works there. So it's not as though she left the planet, or even the local area. The only reasonable option is that she just decided that her patients lives weren't worth anything, not a phone call or even a quick mass email offering any explanation. Apparently I am not the only person who was totally f***** over by her. At this point I am curious what happened, but I have zero sympathy she should lose her medical license after all that.

Back in 2017, Dr. Calinoiu apparently quit private practice without notifying her patients. I was relying on her for my medication, but she never responded to repeated emails and calls and voicemails on her office and emergency lines. She abandoned her patients and violated the tenet to do no harm.

I think she is wonderful and I want to go back and see her. However I can't find her. I have called, emailed and even wrote a letter. Is she still practicing? Any ideas where she is?

Ileana is an amazing psychiatrist. I had tried four others over the years, but she was easily the first I felt really listened to me, and never made me feel like I was running out of options. She explains things really well, including the science, which really appealed to me as a scientist. However, she can be absolutely impossible to get ahold of, which for me included a couple of life and medication emergencies. With much, much regret, I've had to move on. Hopefully I can find someone as amazing as her, but actually returns calls and emails!

I suffer fram a rare sleep cycle disorder and i was seeing a sleep specialist who recommended Dr. Calinoiu. Wow! Dr Calinoiu has so much knowledge-psychiatry AND my sleep/wake cycles disorder. I am used to mentioning it to medical professionals who shrug their shouldrs. Dr Calinoiu was very helpful, explained everything on the white board and suggested a treatment that was not mentioned to me before. Guess what? As a result, I am able to get out of disability and return to work. AND run after my 4 yo darling daughter with plenty of energy and mental clarity. I highly, highly recommend her! Hope she never moves out of state because i want to keep seeing her forever : )

Dr. Calinoiu proved to be off-base with her diagnosis. She prescribes medicines without unveiling the emotional root of the issue I had. It has been frustrating getting hold of her, and she was unreliable returning messages. I am an adult patient, so it is possible that her core expertise lies in adolescent and child psychiatry

Non responsive. Doesn't return phone calls promptly or check email regularly. Hard to get ahold of.

I have seen Dr. Calinoiu for the first time 2 years ago and she has helped me get through some of the most difficult days of my life. After my mother died, I was grieving and needed assistance. Throughout the last year and a half, Dr. Calinoiu has been compassionate, warm, witty, patient, and most of all, helpful. In addition, she has provided me with practical advice for my life and helped me open up to those I love. Would HIGHLY recommend.

Dr Calinoiis not your typicall "10 m ites and a prescription for Prozac" psychiatrist. I thought she was very professional, considerate and helpful; she listens to your problems and takes a methodical approach to solving them. I am in my early 50s and I''ve been to many psychiatrists over the years, but none compare. Thank you, Dr. C!
