I really liked Dr. Ammirata the first time I met her because she seemed genuine and easy to talk to. I had only went to her for yearly check-ups. My husband and I decided we wanted to conceive and after about 8 months, nothing was happening. I have irregular periods and spoke to Dr. Ammirata about my concerns. I had done LOTS of reading online and asked if I could have Polycystic OVarian Syndrome(PCOS). She immediately ruled me out because she said I didn't have the stereotypical symptoms( acne, excessive hair growth, obesity). Even though I didn't have these symptoms, the major symptom I had was irregularity with my periods. She assured me everything would be fine and she prescribed me clomid. Her assistant messed up and prescribed 150mg instead of 50mg. I took the 150mg not knowing it was supposed to be 50mg and still nothing happened. I called the office and they admitted they messed up. Thank goodness it wasn't a drug that could have hurt me. If I ever had questions, I had to deal… with the middle man secretary who looked at notes written by Dr. Ammirata and it was no help at all. Good luck trying to actually talk to the doctor. I told the secretary I wanted to speak to the doctor and it took her 2 1/2 weeks to call me back. After 2 months on clomid, Dr. Ammirata NEVER monitored me. I only came in when I got a positive OPK and some ultrasound girl checked me-never saw doc since being prescribed. I got so sick and tired of the nonsense and chose to never go back there. I am currently seeing a high risk gyno and after meeting him for the FIRST time, he diagnosed me with PCOS! Surprise Surprise! He did an ultrasound and saw lots of follicles that shouldn't be there. He said it didn't matter I siding have the other symptoms. He put me on meds for it and it regulated mg period immediately. He also requested I get tests done that Dr. Ammirata NEVER requested me to do. After going to the radiologist for a test, they discovered a polyp in my uterus that I needed to get surgery to remove. Who knows how long I had this polyp because Dr. Ammirata never did the proper testing. She basically prescribed clomid and expected results without any monitoring. My new doc told me that monitoring is crucial for clomid patients because it thins out uterine lining and makes it hard for embryo to implant. I realized that Dr. Ammirata is good for a Pap smear and that's it! I went through a year of heartache of not being able to conceive and wished I knew about my new doctor earlier on. I just got my polyp removed and I'm all set up for next cycle with proper meds and will be closely and frequently monitored. My suggestion for anyone interested in going to her, I would not trust her word. It seems she has basic knowledge. Also, if I need to ask a question, my new doc immediately calls me at any time that I need to speak with him-no middle man, no secretary. I hope this is helpful to anyone considering Dr. Ammirata.
