Specialties

Dr. James E Carnes has the following 2 specialties

  • Neurology

A neurologist is a physician who diagnoses and treats disorders of the nervous system which is comprised of the brain, spinal cord and nerves. These doctors do not perform surgery, but refer patients to neurological surgeons when they determine that surgical intervention is necessary.
Some of the conditions that neurologists diagnose and treat are epilepsy, aneurysms, hydrocephalus, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, stroke, spinal disc herniation, and spinal disease.
In addition to using diagnostic tests like MRI, CT scans, EEG and EMG, neurologists also employ neurological testing to gauge muscle strength and movement, balance, reflexes, sensation, memory, speech, and other cognitive abilities.

  • Psychiatry

A psychiatrist is a doctor with specific training in the diagnosis and treatment of mental illness.
He or she can not only provide the counseling necessary to both diagnose and treat a patient, but can also prescribe medication when needed. In some cases, a psychiatrist will only provide the medication and the counseling will be provided by another healthcare specialist, like a certified counselor or psychologist.
Like other doctors, psychiatrists employ diagnostic tools like CT scans and MRI in order to observe the structure and function of a patient's brain.
Once a diagnosis is made, these specialists may use behavior or cognitive therapy in order to address the patient's condition, or a multitude of other types of therapy, in conjunction with or in place of medication.

Horrible office and Slightly incompetent Doctor

I went to this doctor originally because I needed a new physician for my epilepsy as my old had retired. I had a good relationship with my old so this made me nervous. I was stable and didn't need anything done besides to see him and renew my medication. Ever since then all this office has done is reschedule me for EVERY SINGLE VISIT. It has been two years since I have seen him. Legally he is supposed to see me every six months before he renews my medication. His office acts like it is my fault but I do my due diligence and call for every appointment. After Two Years I finally got an appointment. Catastrophe. He upped my medication - without taking any blood work for a baseline . He originally told me he would take a base line but his excuse was that we didn't have to because we were upping the dosage. That is the very reason you take blood work. To see where you are originally and then where you are later after the medication takes affect. Then his office never sent the medication to my pharmacy. I actually urgently needed one of those medications renewed. I had called ahead of time for that very reason. That was the whole REASON for the appointment. It was only because I had another specialist on call (ps. his office doesn't do on-call either) that I even got the medication. This specialist stated they would only do this one time, as an emergency. None of this should have happened. This was a wake up call for me. I am now seeking another specialist.

Very good experience!

The front desk staff members were nice and professional. Dr. Carnes was friendly and he listened to my problem. I was very pleased with his bedside manner. As he explained what was going on with me he was personable, kind and he made sure I understood my options. While I don’t have to see him again for my issue, I would highly recommend him.

Poor Office Staff

I went to see Dr Carnes concerning a MRI and some suspicious spots. I was told to come back in approx. 6 months for a follow up. It seems that the staff that works for the Drs. are either putting you on hold for 15 minutes, Or ignoring you. I tried to call to confirm and appointment. Still have not had a chance to speak with anyone, with the exception of nurse/receptionist continually putting me on hold.

One Star

Everyone of the staff there is rude and nasty. Get better staff that will make patients want to come there. You are not the only neurological clinic.
