Dr. James Kevin Elsey, MD

I was admitted through the ER at Gwinnett Medical and Dr. Elsey was assigned to me. I had emergency surgery. When I ask what kind of incision I would have he replied I would get the trauma cut and smiled. My incision was 16 inches and I was stapled back together. I have a horrible scar which he assured me would lessen in a year which it has not. My family tells me he saved my life but I feel like I was treated by army doctor in combat rather than a renowned surgeon in a 5 star hospital. When he came it for his daily checks he always received multiply phone calls which interrupted his 3 minute visit. His explanation for this was it meant he was sought after. He was very cocky. Visits were always rushed. However, his office staff his very professional especially Kelly his office manager.

My first appointment with Dr. Elsey , he came in room to greet me ,Chewing gum and smacking on the gum .He sat / laid on examine table relaxed and he talked with me . Ask me couple of questions with a smirk. I felt uncomfortable immediately . As if routine , He left room as I changed to examine gown he , came back in with assistant spent less than five minutes examining me.I got dress and was told immediately to go schedule to surgery. Completely not aware of how and what expect from surgery . As I left the room Dr. Elsey as I look to the left was eating and and motioned me forward to schedule for surgery. I talk to nice lady and told her my examination was five minutes or less . She told me that’s how he does his visits ,with patients so I wasted my health benefits on this visit with Dr. Elsey . I would be a fool to trust him to operating on me !

I will never recommend Dr. Elsey to anyone. He should have stayed retired. I experienced very low patient care from him since he was the on call surgeon to have my gallbladder removed unexpectedly. Takes no time with you, sees you as filling his pockets, a numbers game, his techniques are very poor and old, no current education, rushes everything, doesn’t take into consideration what the patient wants. Very old school in is way with patient recovery. Please, do not send a loved one to him. Gwinnett Medical Center should be ashamed having a doctor like him still employed.

Dr. Elsey saw me on short notice and determined that I needed my gallbladder removed. He assured me he would take good care of me and quickly scheduled my surgery. It has been nearly 2 weeks since my surgery and am feeling like my old self again. I would recommend Dr. Elsey to anyone in need of general surgery.

Dr. Else’s has a great bedside manner. We felt safe in his hands. Love that he uses laxer for less invasive.

I don't often write reviews. Dr. Elsey performed a surgery to correct a complication from a previous surgery and I am very thankful. He was friendly and reassuring to my family and did good work, though I am no expert on surgical procedures. That said, at my post op appointment about 10 day after he spent VERY little time with me. He looked at the incision said he was happy, said nothing about my high blood pressure (which I've never had) and gave me no further instructions about when or whether or not I should return. He did however give me a sheet explaining where to go and how to give him positive reviews if I was happy with the work he had done. So...I am happy with the work, without it I would have been very sick and I am not ill any longer. If there was an emergency I'd use him again. However, he needs to take time to listen and explain even when or of he's running behind.

Dr Elsey did emergency surgery on me and Did an Amazing job. I was so lucky that he Was the doctor on call when I needed him. I Had never met him before. I would highly Recommend him to anyone that needs a surgeon.

Dr. Elsey and staff exhibited the highest level of professionalism, competency, compassion, and care. Dr. Elsey's skill level is outstanding and his clarity of communication was most reassuring. A resounding BRAVO! all the way around!
