He took great care of me for years.

My husband, who had never smoked in his life, was diagnosed with metastatic lung cancer. By the time he was diagnosed, he had lost a significant amount of weight and was literally dying. A very small spot on his lung had been monitored for some time by ST scan but it had not changed. By the time it did, he was literally terminally ill. His pulmonologist referred him to Dr. Mccaughn for surgery to remove as much of the cancer and fluid as possible and prevent the fluid from forming again. Dr. Mccaughn was a great comfort to my husband and he was very confident in his skills. His follow up was excellent, and he made my husband feel very at peace with the long ordeal that was to follow. He assured my husband that he only had certain OR staff that he worked with on his team and they were the best. I did not leave after regular visiting hours were over because my husband suffered tremendous anxiety and it was the norm to see Dr. Mccaughn walking the halls at 2:00 am checking on patients or… sitting in the hallway doing paperwork. Often I would talk to him and ask if he was ever going home. I know he had his personal reasons for working the long hours that he did. The staff was devoted to him. I have never seen anyone so selfless in my life. When my husband came home and started chemo, he was constantly asking me to send a note to Dr. Mccaughn and thank him for everything he had done. Sadly, I never did. My husband was handicapped and after starting chemo, became more debilitated before becoming confined to a wheelchair. I was his sole caregiver. I always felt guilty about not writing that note and thanking him for two more years of my husband's life. I also always wondered how he was and how he was doing himself. My husband was one of many people treated and even saved by him and he may have forgotten us, but I will never forget him.

He’s an excellent doctor, He cares about his patiences & when you talk to him he actually listens, going to miss you.

His attitude was weird. He also had snuff in his mouth and I thought i smelled alcohol on his breath. I wouldn't trust him to do surgery on me or a family member.

My husband visited Dr M. for pressure on the chest and dizziness when he raised his arms. Dr M told him not to raise his arms. The end... When I asked what can be done he said, "Well, we can run some test if you want." Really!!! I had to call 3 times to get the nurse to get the test pre-approved . It took 2 weeks. When we went to have the test run the radiologist told us they were the wrong tests. (Which was confirmed by the next Dr.) We immediately made an apt with a different Thoracic Surgeon who immediately referred us to a cardiologist. That week tests were run. A week later my husband had a QUADRUPLE BYPASS with all 4 90 - 95% blocked. "Be your own advocate."

Dr Mccaughan is kind and very professional and he's gifted in his area of specialization. All his patients have direct access and can reach him at any time of the day which is very important to me. I don't ever want to have surgery again but if i need to, i'll definitely go back to him!

Dr. McCaughan's bedside manner seemed a bit flighty. He operated on a family member, the surgery was successful, but the follow-up was lacking.

Dr mccaughn was recommended by a fellow Dr. He performed ct surgery on my husband and successfully diagnosed and removed a cancer from his lung. He was professional, kind and in the short time I was in his presence and spoke to him, I feel he is a very gifted and talented man on many levels. Thank God for his intuition, diagnosis and surgical expertise...Very impressive

Dr. performed a procedure on our father and never came out to let us know how he was doing. Family sat for five hours (surgery only took one hour)without knowing what the result was. Later he said he had an emergency, but the hospital staff said there was plenty of time to talk to us in between the surgery and the so called emergency. Father needed another surgery the next day because the lead to the pacemaker detached.
