Dr Jamie Fertal

Dr. Fertal has been helping me for about a year or more with my pain management requirements. She has a wonderful demeanor and she is very professional and sincere. I feel very blessed that she is part of my medical team. I would highly recommend her. Dr. Fertal your the best!

I have dealt with cancer 4x and now living with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer. The thought of seeing a palliative care doctor carried the stigma of end of life so I resisted going. I finally gave it a try to see if she could help me. She listened to my symptoms and for the first time in my life I was able to sleep through the night and have less anxiety due to a low dose medication she put me on. Thank you Dr. Furtel !

Dr. Fertal may be the worst doctor I have ever met. She was utterly and completely unable to hear the words that were being spoken to her by her patient who was begging her for pain relief.

She has no less than amazing. She has gone way above and beyond helping us understand end of life issue. Once chemo was no longer an option - all said hospice was the only route. Dr. Fertal graciously explained all of our options and was FANTASTIC in helping us deal with pain management. She always took whatever extra time was necessary and always made us feel like she was her number one patient. She was followed up several times on the phone to see how we were doing. Dr. Cappasso, now Dr. Fertal (since married) was always a terrific listener and compassionate Palliative Care doctor. She was one of the only doctors who still had compassion for her patients. I look forward to seeing her since leaving UCI.

She has no respect, consideration or compassion for patients. Cold as ice and speaks scripted like a robot. I have Stage 4 Tongue and Throat Cancer. When I was admitted to UCI I had Stage 2, 2.8 curable, I am now Stage 4 non-curable, UCI doctors and Hospital gave me a death sentence. The Dr. doesn't listen to me and my family members. She won't compromise, its her way or no way, not what is best for me. She continually tries to push more narcotic medications (methadone)(gabapentin) that have been tried and do not work, drug the patient up so they can't function and waste away, especially disabled seniors. (UCI must be in clinical trials and getting funding for studying these drugs). The drugs do not prevent on set Break Through Pain flares (10+) and although my attending physician said I"can have the medication" I need, Dr. Capasso will not prescribe the medication that will work such as Fentora Lollipop or Actig Lozenge specifically for short term rapid onset pain used for Cancer… Patients. She lets me needlessly suffer in pain and harasses and bullies me and doesn't contact my family member whom has the AHCD and not honor UCI Patient Rights. Stay away from UCI Hospital and doctors, they do not honor UCI Patient Rights or Advance Health Care Directive, they believe they're above the laws. The nurses, respiratory and physical therapists are wonderful and the best 4th, 5th and 6th floors. They have saved my life more than once, not the doctors.
