Dr. Jan Lewis Brandes, MD

Dr. Brandes is wonderful! However she has taken a leave of absence and her office staff other than the woman that takes the blood work are terrible . I have been seeing Dr Brandes for more than 10 years and my husband for more than 20 years it's a shame her staff has dropped the ball not only on common manners but the treatment of medication as well ! If she doesn't come back soon she'll lose a lot of patients. I know everyone i have talked to in the waiting room are very unhappy

Dr. Brandes provides quality care that is based on each individual patients needs. While the wait may be long, she gives each patient the time needed to fully access the situation to make an accurate diagnosis. I went from having daily migraines to monthly migraines to rarely having a migraine. She is a gift!

I was a patient of Dr. Brandes for about 15 years. After suffering for decades with chronic migraine syndrome I was referred to Dr. Brandes as "she is the best neurologist in Nashville". During those 15 years being her patient, I continued to suffer with migraines and being so "doped up" with prescribed meds that I would fall, walk into walls and furniture. My meds were changed or increased at almost every appt. There were times that I had to be my own advocate and speak up for myself because I felt like a medical guinea pig, so to say. Her NP Susan was rude on occasion and I definately saw her more than I saw the doctor. I was taking daily meds, abortive meds, painkillers as well as having injections in my neck and botox treatments. Nothing ever seemed to work. Her office staff is clueless... and rude! I am so happy after leaving her practice last year and have found another neurologist in Nashville. I am off of my migraine meds and feeling better than I have in decades. When I visit… my new doctor, I only wait 5-10 minutes instead of hours!!!

THIS WOMAN LETS YOU LIE IN PAIN AND DOES NOTHING TO HELP. YOU DON'T REALLY SEE HER THAT MUCH. SHE IS RUDE AND CONDESCENDING WHEN SHE DOES RETURN YOUR CALLS. SHE TELLS YOU THAT YOU AREN'T FOLLOWING HER DIRECTIONS. SHE DOPES YOU UP ON A BUNCH OF DIFFERENT MEDS AT ONCE. STAY AWAY IF YOU WANT TO LIVE

Dr. Brandes is such a fine physician that I elected to return to her when another problem arose. She's sweet, professional, takes adequate time to listen to you, and has a vast knowledge-base from which to draw.

don't waste your time

You may have to wait to see Dr. Brandes but she is second to nobody in the field of chronic headaches

Been seeing Dr. Brandes for about 2 yrs. First visit waited 7 hours in severe pain. Other visits I waited 4-5 hours. Office staff is horrible. Dr. Brandes seemed concerned and wanted to help the first visit. She prescribed 8 medications, gave her instructions, said to keep journal of pain, what"s working and what"s not. Next visit saw NP. more med changes, next visit saw Dr. Brandes, More meds. After many visits of the same thing there was NO CHANGES in pain, My headache is a 24/7 headache. I can sleep but when I am awake, I AM IN PAIN. No pain relievers worked at all. Finally I ask about other options or other doctors and she blamed me for not following her directions, acted like she was the "GOD ALMIGHTY" of doctors, and after some very unprofessional remarks dropped me as a patient. No disrespect , but, if the program's not working then we gotta do something else. I was ready to leave anyway so it didn't hurt my feelings. On to a better neurologist.

The staff tells patients that everyone is "double booked". I try to take the first appointment of the day and hope I beat the other person who also has the same appointment! Dr. Brandes is excellent, but be prepared to WAIT. The staff puts you in an exam room withing 45 minutes , but then the real waiting begins. Bring a book and make sure your familty members understand.

I suffered from migraines for five years. Once I started being treated by Dr. Brandes, the frequency decreased. I have not had one in over a year. A huge change from 3-5 a week! She listens, cares, and takes plenty of time with me.
