Specialties

Dr. Jeffrey L Mathews has the following 3 specialties

  • Emergency Medicine

An emergency physician is a doctor who is an expert in handling conditions of an urgent and extremely dangerous nature. These specialists work in the emergency room (ER) departments of hospitals where they oversee cases involving cardiac distress, trauma, fractures, lacerations and other acute conditions.
Emergency physicians are specially trained to make urgent life-saving decisions to treat patients during an emergency medical crisis. These doctors diagnose and stabilize patients before they are either well enough to be discharged, or transferred to the appropriate department for long-term care.

  • Rheumatology

A rheumatologist is a physician who has received extensive training in diagnosing and treating rheumatic conditions. Rheumatic conditions involve the joints, soft tissues, autoimmune system, vascular system, and connective tissues.
Some of the conditions that rheumatologists treat are rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, gout, sarcoidosis, vasculitis, and lupus. These are all conditions that involve a lot of pain and make mobility difficult. Rheumatologists use medications, such as analgesics, NSAIDs, steroids, DMARDs, infliximab, and adalimumab, as well as occupational therapy, in order to decrease pain and improve a patient's quality of life.

  • Internal Medicine

An internist is a physician who focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of conditions that affect the adult population—both acute and chronic.
These doctors are often who adults see as their primary physicians because they treat a broad range of illnesses that do not require surgical or specialist interventions. They also work to help a patient maintain optimal health in order to prevent the onset of disease.
In addition to treating the common cold and flu, internists also treat chronic diseases like diabetes and heart disease.

Puts patients FIRST. Incredible doctor.

I work for Dr. Mathews, and felt the need to leave a review to help those who have been in his office as patients, and also those who are thinking about coming in to see him for the first time. Above all, Dr. Mathews is a wonderful, kind man with good integrity and an excellent bedside manner. Every decision that he makes he considers thoughtfully, and he always has the patient's best interest at heart. I've seen it time and time again. He sometimes cannot refill medications without the patient being seen by him or one of his Nurse Practitioners first, and that is simply because he is prohibited from doing so due to laws and regulations. He does anything and everything that he can to help every person who comes through his front door, and it is an honor working for him.

Former Surviving Patient

Even though Jeffrey Mathews as a great bedside manner, he does not really care about his patients. He over prescribes steroids to his patients (but tells them it's some other medicine.) If the patient has problems he blames it on "the flu." He was Sanctioned for a ten year period and not allowed to practice medicine. I was disabled by him. My mother-in-Law was put in a wheelchair for several years because of his steroid prescriptions. Do not walk, RUN as fast as you can from him and his office to a real rheumatologist!

Where is the receptionist?

Have never been able to call directly to the scheduling assistant (including calls from my primary care physician), always get directed to voice mail. It then takes multiple calls over several days to get a return call.
