He is the most caring doctor I have ever taken my daughter to. He really listens and tries to help. I also like that he explains things to you.
Dr Lorenz is very caring

Totally nuts. Reminds me of the Nutty Professor. His wife Beth is pitiful too! He is arrogant and let's you know how stupid you are. Has no sense of humor and horrible people skills. Time to go out to pasture you old Goat!
RUN!

He is very narcissistic and arrogant. He was the first and only doctor to diagnose me with bipolar disorder and put me on mood stabilizers. He is quick to tell you he is the doctor and he is correct. When having concerns about medication side effects he dismisses them and ups the dose because "it's not enough" to be working therapeutically. He referred to my weight several times and seemed to be more concerned about it than my PCP. Also said that it's because of my weight that I have mental health issues- this was never the cause, sure I could lose some extra pounds but I was not hyperfocused on my weight, not ever but rather suffered trauma as a child. He over prescribes and I have heard numerous other past patients of his often on the same drugs, topamax being one of his favorites. His wife which serves as his nurse is just as arrogant and I feel covers up his mistakes for him. He often refers to his past experiences which are unrelated to topic. He referred to my weight once as a cave woman that packs extra meat on her bones to provide for my family during the winter months and brought his wife in to discuss gastric bypass surgery with me. He is barbaric.
How is he in practice?

This psychiatrist appears to have an inflated ego. Speaks a great deal of his experience; which is difficult to identify. He scrambled around looking through books to seek appropriate treatment for what he believes to be bipolar disorder. I have been in treatment for years, and he is the first to diagnose me with this disorder. No thanks!
Not a great experience
Self-verified patient of Dr. John R Lorenz - Posted on February 24th, 2019
I was very hopeful after my first visit with Dr. Lorenz. He spent a lot of time talking to me and attempting to make an accurate diagnosis. Unfortunately, my visits with him went downhill from there. Visit after visit, he made snap decisions about medications (and never recorded them correctly in my file), had to review my entire file at each visit so he could remember who I was, and was never open to reconsidering his initial diagnosis based on my symptoms and reactions to medications. He's quite old, and I found he didn't seem to be able to relate to or understand me well at all. Additionally, his wife (the nurse) is very direct, to the point of being somewhat intimidating and, at times, rude. She often made me cry before I ever got into Dr. Lorenz's office. I give two stars because he takes his time with patients, even if he does sometimes spend it having fruitless conversations, and he does seem to show genuine concern. It may just be time for him to retire.
Narcissistic

This psychiatrist is very arrogant about his position. If you ever disagree with diagnosis and treatment, he will remind you he is the doctor. He is inept, and unethical. His wife is clearly covering for his mistakes.
Treatment
Self-verified patient of Dr. John R Lorenz - Posted on December 5th, 2018
Dr Lorenz took the time to know my condition and try to find ways to treat. He is very knowledgeable about medicines and their makeup. The wait was a little long but worth it. He treats you with respect.
