Initially sharing offices with Dr. John Baumrucker, who has since retired from office practice, Dr. Scott Baker reopened his independent medical practice in Highlands in 2008. He rejoined the medical staff of Highlands-Cashiers Hospital in 2009, and is now also a member of the hospital's emergency room staff. Dr. Baker earned his medical degree from the Texas A&M University College of Medicine in College Station, TX, and completed his residency in Family and Community Medicine at Wake Forest University's (Bowman Gray) School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, NC. He earned his undergraduate degree in pre-med from Baylor University in Waco, TX, where he was a member of the Alpha Epsilon Delta Honor Society and the Gamma Beta Phi National Honor Society. During college, he worked as a paramedic. Prior to reopening his office in Highlands, he practiced in both Rabun County, GA, and Franklin, NC. He is certified by the American Board of Family Practice.
