Dr. John Shiau, MD operated on me twice, once for spinal stenosis with vertebrae disc replacement and fusing, and second for sacroiliac fusion. Both operations went very well with very little pain and quick recovery time. I highly recommend him.

I had initially went to see a different doctor at RUMC. right at the end of that consultation that doctor told me he works with another surgeon that turned out to be dr shiau. I waited an hour and a half in his noisy, unprofessional waiting room. when I finally got to see dr shiau he danced around explaining the 'old fashioned' procedure for what I needed to be corrected. he then began to try to sell me on some 'minimally invasive' procedure where he would go through my side in order to get to my spine. when he was through explaining the procedure and showing me some grainy pictures I ran out of there determined never to let this man touch me again.

I was referred by both friends and family who have had both brain and spine surgery by him. I was seeing him for my spine because I wanted minimally invasive spine surgery. Surgery went great and I am a new man.

Dr. Shiau performed a discectomy on me on June 28th, 2017. Prior to my surgery I could not walk stand or lift my 2 year old daughter. I was skeptical about my surgery after reading the review that he had involvement in leaving a patient crippled but I still decided to go forth with my surgery. That was the best decision I ever made. I feel 99% better 2 months post op. I finally have my life back thanks to Dr. Shiau. He was professional, made me feel comfortable, and effective. I would highly recommend him to anyone seeking help with sciatica or herniated discs.

Dr. Shiau has run late more than a few times with me but I appreciate the thoroughness and time he spends with me. He repaired my aneurysm and did emergency brain surgery on my nephew when he was 12. He doesn't just do spine surgery so I always give him the benefit of the doubt because he is great.
