Not the best bedside manners

Not easy to talk to. Shut me off when i asked about issues i found on the internet. I got to the point of not discussing my concerns with him because he didnt display any empathy or try to explain things in laymens terms. Poor lab follow up, one particular blood count was so important he changed my medication because of it then the next visit he forgot to have it tested. I went for 6 months before he even tested the particular hormone i was needing help with.

Rude, dismissive, doesn't listen and threw away my records!

I had been warned by friends that Dr. DeSouza was rigid and dismissive but he's the only endocrinologist in Kalispell and that's who I got referred to. I tried to get an appointment with Dr. Corsi in Missoula but he doesn't take new patients without a referral. Knowing I was probably up for a difficult experience, I tried to be as prepared as possible - brought in past lab reports, typed up detailed medical and family medical histories, printed a handful of articles from the National Institutes of Health website and typed up a list of questions so I wouldn't get flustered and forget anything. At first Dr. DeSouza REFUSED to look at any of the paperwork I brought in. When I insisted, he flipped through it all and commented that it was "interesting" but none of it meant anything. So, I moved on and I started with my list of questions... Every question was met with an eye roll and then dismissed in some way. When I asked what I could do to avoid developing thyroid nodules, he said "what makes you think you're going to get nodules?" I responded that I was concerned because I had a family history of thyroid cancer and nodules, I had just been diagnosed hypothyroid and wanted to do whatever I could to avoid developing more serious problems in the future. At this point he began to berate me, telling me I was worrying about nothing, all my questions were ridiculous and that I would never develop nodules. All I could say was "Is that a promise?" and he told me "Yes, that's a promise. You'll never get nodules." All he seemed interested in discussing was my diet and exercise, implying that the only way I could have gained 20 pounds in such a sort period of time was if I was eating too much and exercising too little. I never raised my weight as a concern but he picked it up off the office form I'd been asked to fill out and decided to focus on it. This is when I really lost it. I've always been extremely active and a very healthy eater and have never had a weight problem before. If anything, I've eaten less and worked out more in the last year because I couldn't understand where all the weight gain was coming from. I went home in tears and am now waiting for an appointment with another doctor. Here's the corker... Today I called and asked for copies of all the records I'd brought into my appointment and was told sorry, they've all been thrown away...

Thyroid concerns

I was referred to Dr DeSouza, by my primary MD. The appt was made 2 months prior. Friday the office calls to confirm the appt and tells me they need labs drawn for the Monday am appt. I informed them I was working and would get drawn asap. I also questioned how it was known what to draw for prior to the appt. They stated he would want a TSH and T4 and didn't know how long the lab needed to run the test. I was informed should there need to be any other labs Dr would decide at the appt. I had my labs drawn at the Hosp over the weekend and was assured Dr would have the results by Monday 9 am appt time. On my way to the appt Monday am, the office called me wondering what was up as they didn't have lab results in by 8:45am. They were informed they were drawn and I was assured Dr would have them in time. I then went to the office and found it closed. I called their number to find they moved. At the appt the MD asked briefly history and present concerns yet, only focused on lab results. Dr and staff were notably frustrated that the results weren't in by 9:20. Not bothering to look at the range of values in relation to my symptoms or any other concerns. In fact, he directly dismissed EVERY symptom related to another reason such as age. Also, he denied any need to review lab work from yrs prior which showed the pattern of fluctuations. His responses were arrogant. The message received... Don't waste his time!
