Dr. Joseph Ciotola, MD

I am a retired orthopedic physical therapist. I have rehabbed hundreds of knees over my career. I had a poor outcome following Dr Ciatola's Mako knee replacement. His after care was nearly non-existent and he did nothing over the many post op months although I continued to c/o about instability and 10 times more pain than I had prior to the replacement. After 10 months he finally said, "This may be the new normal". No tests or images were taken or offered after the surgery day. I am now scheduled for a revision at a university hospital. I am convinced his favorite patients are the ones that are under anesthesia. His bedside manner is lacking and non-engaging. He acts like he does not enjoy his work.

I had an anterior hip replacement in Dec 2016 and it hasn’t given me any problems almost 6 yrs later. Dr Ciatola was excellent and so was the staff at Mercy Hospital. I can’t say enough good things about him and Mercy Hospital. It was my right hip and I was driving at 2 weeks post op??. My family and friends were so surprised at how fast I recovered. Excellent care from preop thru anesthesia,surgery ,recovery & followup, all patient oriented.Was ablle to have 2 replacements within 3wks@85yoa.

Dealt with knee pain for a year. Switched to Dr Ciotola looked at mri he recommended knee scope .Within days I was back to normal!

I had a full knee replacement with Dr. Ciotola and was back to work within 2 weeks. Maybe not the norm, but I would highly recommend Dr. Ciotola!!!

Dr Ciotola is the best orthopedic surgeon in the area. He has replaced both my hips and they are doing great. Very caring and thoughtful,

He is arrogant. Runs a conveyer belt of replacement hip and knee surgeries. I have had problems from day one. He refuses to re evaluate. I was shipped out of the hospital within hours of my surgery. The pain was excruciating but no one cared. I was a number not a person. I am having revision surgery. I got three opinions this time. I needed to be sure I wasn’t just being run into surgery for the doctors benefit.Unlike Ciotola who is not looking at the person.

Dr.Ciotola is the most compassionate and kind physician I have ever gone to. He is highly trained, extremely skilled surgeon. In about 2 months I am going to have a right knee replacement and he comes highly recommended by patients, physicians and nurses. I have always found that if a doctor is highly recommended by nurses , then that physician is at the top of the game.
